Winnebago loses at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge
The Winnebago Indians lost 3-1 at home to Laurel-Concord-Coleridge on Thursday, falling 3-1.
The Bears won set one 25-17 before Winnebago took set two 25-19. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge bounced back to win set three 25-16 and set four 26-24.
The Indians fought hard, but came up short. I thought Winnebago might be able to pick up the win, but the Bears had other ideas.
The Indians (7-15) take on Homer (9-14) and Wakefield (8-18) in the Homer Triangular on Thursday.
The Knights won 3-0 at Pender last Tuesday while the Trojans fell 3-0 at home to Battle Creek on Monday.
Neither Homer or Wakefield are bad teams, but I don't see any reason why Winnebago can't beat both.
Things are getting down to crunch time, the nitty gritty.
There aren't a whole lot more chances for the Indians to impress.
Winnebago has these matches on Thursday, and then the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament Saturday-Tuesday.
The Indians desperately need to play well to have a shot at competing in sub districts.
It's vital for Winnebago to pick things up and increase their level of play.
You always want to be playing your best volleyball at the end of the season, and that's what the Indians hope to be doing come sub district time.
I think in many ways the Indians took some steps in the right direction against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, and I feel Winnebago can grow from that match and have a good showing on Thursday.
The Indians will have had an entire week to prepare for both teams so that should be to their advantage.
I look for Winnebago to play well on Thursday, and at least push both matches to a third set.
