Stanton wins East Husker Conference Tournament

The Stanton Mustangs have continued their great run as they knocked off Logan View, Tekamah-Herman, Howells-Dodge, and North Bend Central to win the East Husker Conference Tournament.

Stanton defeated the Raiders 2-0 on Thursday, winning set one 25-13, and set two 25-9.

MacKenzie Brandl notched 14 digs while Jessie Brandl had 13. Bree Burtwhistle totaled 7 digs and 11 set assists while Hilary Huss recorded 7 set assists.

The Mustangs downed Tekamah-Herman 2-0 on Thursday, winning set one 25-22, and set two 25-5.

Huss finished with 11 kills while Jessie Brandl chipped in 14 digs. MacKenzie Brandl registered 7 digs as did Burtwhistle, who added 15 set assists.

Stanton defeated the Jaguars 2-0 on Saturday, taking set one 25-18, and set two 25-20.

Burtwhistle had 14 kills, 8 digs, and 10 set assists while Huss recorded 10 kills and 16 set assists. MacKenzie Brandl notched 28 set assists while Jessie Brandl and Leah Arens compiled 12 each.

The Mustangs downed North Bend Central 3-1 on Saturday, taking set one 25-23. Stanton won set two 25-17 before the Tigers took set three 25-18. The Mustangs closed out the match with a 25-20 set four win.

Huss finished with 16 kills, 18 digs, and 19 set assists while Burtwhistle totaled 13 kills, 14 digs, and 26 set assists. Jessie Brandl had 7 kills and 20 digs. MacKenzie Brandl led the way with 43 digs while Alex Oestreich chipped in 7.

Stanton continued their dominance last week.

The Mustangs played at a very high level, and knocked off a team in North Bend Central who had simply been rolling people. It was a huge win for Stanton.

The Mustangs (25-1) battle Pierce (14-9) and Randolph (12-8) in the Randolph Triangular on Tuesday.

The Bluejays defeated the Cardinals and Osmond on Thursday at the Pierce County Tourney after losing 3-0 at Guardian Angels Central Catholic on Tuesday of last week.

Randolph beat Plainview 2-0 on Thursday and 3-0 on Tuesday of last week. The Cardinals lost 3-1 at Hartington-Newcastle last Monday.

Stanton should be able to win both matches. There's no reason to think the Mustangs won't win both.

Pierce might be tough, but Stanton has already beaten the Bluejays twice this season, and I don't see the Mustangs losing to Pierce, although it's never easy to beat the same team three times in a season.

I think Stanton has a good chance to win out the rest of the regular season, although the Mustangs could stumble if they aren't on top of their game.

I don't look for that to be the case though. Stanton has played outstanding volleyball for basically the entire season, and has made things look pretty easy.

Other than Columbus Scotus, the opponent hasn't mattered. The Mustangs have gone out there and taken care of business night in and night out.

I look for that to be the case against Pierce and Randolph. I don't feel either team will take down mighty Stanton.

Anything can happen, but I look for the Mustangs to be on top of their game and pick up two wins.
