Stanton 3-0 in last three matches
The Stanton Mustangs continue to play dominate volleyball as they are 3-0 in their last three matches, knocking off Howells-Dodge 3-0 last Tuesday, West Point-Beemer 2-1 and Scribner-Snyder 2-0 at the Stanton Triangular on Tuesday of this week.
Stanton defeated the Jaguars 25-11 in set one, 25-16 in set two, and 25-22 in set three.
Jessie Brandl and Hilary Huss had 10 kills apiece to lead the Mustangs. MacKenzie Brandl totaled 23 digs while Bree Burtwhistle and Jessie Brandl notched 13 and 12, respectively. Huss and Leah Arens recorded 7 apiece. Burtwhistle registered 15 set assists while Huss dished out 11.
The Mustangs took care of the Trojans 25-10 in set one and 25-12 in set two.
Huss led the way with 8 kills and 10 set assists while MacKenzie and Jessie Brandl registered 9 and 8 digs, respectively. Burtwhistle added 7 set assists.
Stanton won set one against the Cadets 25-17. West Point-Beemer won set two 25-22, but the Mustangs prevailed in set three 25-14.
Jessie Brandl totaled 11 kills and 9 digs while Huss had 7 kills, 10 digs, and 17 set assists. MacKenzie Brandl notched 20 digs while Burtwhistle added 13 digs and 11 set assists. Arens chipped in 9 digs.
The Mustangs were challenged against the Cadets, but found a way to win and took care of business. Stanton did a good job of putting away Howells-Dodge and Scribner-Snyder, and taking care of business against those two teams.
The Mustangs (21-1) battle Logan View (2-22) in the East Husker Conference Tournament on Thursday.
The Raiders lost 2-0 to Oakland-Craig and Fremont Bergan at the Archbishop Bergan Triangular on Tuesday.
It has been a real struggle for Logan View so far this season, and I look for Stanton to dominate from the onset.
I suspect the Mustangs will sweep the Raiders, and make quick work of them.
I don't see Stanton having any trouble in this match whatsoever.
Assuming the Mustangs win, they get the winner of Tekamah-Herman and Bancroft-Rosalie, also on Thursday.
Either way Stanton should go 2-0, but the Mustangs have to play well as upsets can happen at any time.
I look for the Mustangs to go deep in this tournament. I think there could definitely be a Stanton/North Bend Central or Stanton/Wisner-Pilger final.
You can't count out Oakland-Craig though. The Mustangs could definitely be challenged by the Knights if the two meet up.
There are some quality teams in this tournament, and I wouldn't be shocked if there were some upsets. I don't know if Stanton will get upset, but there are some higher seeds I could see losing early on.
It should be an exciting tournament, that's for sure. The Mustangs play on their home floor on Thursday.
