Lyons-Decatur Northeast sweeps Pender
The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars earned a 3-0 win at Pender on Tuesday.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast won sets one and two 26-24, and took set three 25-10.
Brianne Haskell had 12 kills and 10 digs while Kelly Wakeley totaled 10 kills and 15 digs. Abby Peterson notched 15 digs while Lexie Bacon totaled 11 digs and 15 set assists. Mickayla Peterson added 7 digs.
This was a very impressive win for the Cougars. The match easily could have gone four or five sets, but Lyons-Decatur Northeast found a way to win the close sets, and that really does make a difference in winning and losing sets.
The Cougars (15-15) travel to Tekamah to battle Tekamah-Herman (15-13) on Tuesday in their regular season finale.
The Tigers are coming off a 3-0 loss at Howells-Dodge on Thursday, and have been up and down for much of the season.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast is on a four-match winning streak, and I think the Cougars have a good chance to make it five in a row with a win on Tuesday.
Wakeley, Haskell, Bacon, Peterson, Petersen, and others all have to play well for Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
If the Cougars get contributions from everyone like they did against Pender then I think Lyons-Decatur Northeast has a good chance to be successful and pick up the win.
The Cougars are certainly peeking at the right time.
It's looking like Lyons-Decatur Northeast will play Fremont Bergan in the opening round of sub districts, and the Cougars need all the momentum they can get heading into that sub district.
A win over a C-1 school in Tekamah-Herman would do wonders for this team's confidence, in my opinion.
Lyons-Decatur Northeast has already beaten Cedar Bluffs, who they could very well meet in the sub district final, but beat the Tigers and beating the Knights and Wildcats could certainly be a reality.
I have confidence and belief in this team in that they can get the job done on Tuesday. The match won't be easy with it being on the road and Tekamah-Herman being two classes above the Cougars, but Lyons-Decatur Northeast is certainly capable of pulling off the win.
