Lyons-Decatur Northeast beats Bancroft-Rosalie; falls to North Bend Central

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars beat Bancroft-Rosalie 3-0 at home Thursday night before losing 3-0 at home to North Bend Central on Tuesday.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast downed the Panthers 25-19 in sets one and two, and won set three 25-15.

North Bend Central won set one 25-10, took set two 25-21, and won set three 25-18.

Kelly Wakeley led the Cougars (11-14) with 5 kills. Wakeley and Brianne Haskell added 9 digs apiece while Lexie Bacon posted 9 digs and 7 set assists. Mickayla Peterson totaled 11 set assists.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast takes on West Point-Beemer (11-10) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament on Thursday.

The two teams met in the first match of the season with the Cadets winning 3-2.

West Point-Beemer defeated Scribner-Snyder 2-0 at the Stanton Triangular on Tuesday, but lost to the host Mustangs 2-1.

This is a very intriguing match up, in my opinion. I feel the match could go either way.

The winner most likely gets North Bend Central, and I'm sure the Cougars would like another shot at the Tigers.

Both Lyons-Decatur Northeast and West Point-Beemer have played some of their best volleyball of the season as of late, and I look for Thursday's match to go the distance.

This first match is super important for both teams. I'm sure both teams would like to pick up a win.

It will be interesting to see what the Cougars can do. Lyons-Decatur Northeast started strong in set two against North Bend Central, getting out to a 6-0 lead, and the Cougars need that type of effort the whole time against the Cadets.

Thursday's match with West Point-Beemer is scheduled to get underway at 4:30 p.m.
