Wisner-Pilger finishes runner-up in EHC Tournament; wins at Twin River
The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team beat Stanton 2-0 in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals in Pender on Saturday before losing 3-0 in the championship to North Bend Central. The Gators then won 3-1 at Twin River Tuesday night.
The Gators downed the Mustangs 25-19 in set one and 25-13 in set two.
Rachel Otten had 11 kills while Karrin Jindra totaled 8 digs. Emily Buhrman and Aspin Waterman chipped in 7 digs apiece while Adi Meyer notched 9 set assists.
Wisner-Pilger fell 25-21 in set one to the Tigers, and lost sets two and three 25-18.
Otten finished with 7 kills and 7 blocks while Buhrman registered 23 digs. Meyer added 10 set assists.
The Gators won set one over the Titans 25-11, and took set three 25-16 and set four 25-15 after losing set two 26-24.
Jindra tallied 12 kills and 23 digs while Otten and Waterman each had 10 kills. Lily Otten added 7 kills while Buhrman posted 14 digs. Waterman chipped in 12. Meyer dished out 32 set assists.
Great play from Wisner-Pilger in the win over the Mustangs. Solid play from the Gators against the Titans as well.
Wisner-Pilger (18-10) rounds out the regular season Thursday night against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (14-13) and Fort Calhoun (13-14) at the Logan View/Scribner-Snyder Triangular.
The Raiders won 2-0 over Tekamah-Herman and 2-1 over West Point-Beemer at Saturday's Tournament while the Pioneers swept Conestoga 3-0 on the road Tuesday night.
The Gators should be able to beat the Pioneers and Raiders, but I could see LVSS giving Wisner-Pilger a challenge.
Reason being it is the last regular season home matches of the season for the Raiders, and they have quite a few seniors.
I could see Logan View/Scribner-Snyder coming out and playing inspired so the Gators need to be ready.
I think Wisner-Pilger has a great chance of sweeping this Triangular though.
I think the Gators would really like to get to 20 wins before Sub-Districts next week.
It is definitely possible, attainable, and achievable too.
These matches are big for Sub-State hopes and seeding too.
Wisner-Pilger probably needs a couple of wins to feel comfortable about making Sub-State should they not win their Sub-District.
Sub-Districts start next week, and the Gators are in a stacked Sub-District.
All Wisner-Pilger can do Thursday though is find ways to win a couple of matches and conclude the regular season on a high note.
The Gators have a lot to play for yet and need to stay the course and remain motivated and excited.
Wisner-Pilger has everything laid out in front of them.
The Gators could wind up making the State Tournament.
That has to give Wisner-Pilger hope and something to really work hard for here at the end of the season.
The Gators have a lot in front of them yet and it will be interesting to see how things turn and shake out down the stretch.
Two wins on Thursday would go a long ways in a postseason run being made, in my opinion.
