West Point-Beemer falls to DC West and Oakland-Craig in home Triangular
The West Point-Beemer Volleyball Team fell 2-0 to DC West and Oakland-Craig at their home Triangular last Tuesday night.
The Falcons won set one 25-18 and set two 25-15. Sidney Swanson had 8 kills and 10 digs while Jadyn Meiergerd totaled 14 digs. Katie Rainforth added 9 digs and 10 set assists while Brooklyn Weddle posted 7 digs.
The Cadets fell 27-25 in set one to the Knights, and also lost set two 25-20.
Swanson posted 10 digs while Rainforth notched 8 digs and 8 set assists. Meiergerd and Diana Cervantes each had 8 digs while Weddle recorded 7.
A couple of tough setbacks for West Point-Beemer.
The Cadets (8-17) take on Howells-Dodge (15-9) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night.
The Jaguars went 2-1 at the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Round Robin on Saturday, defeating Twin River and Spalding Academy 2-0, but losing 2-0 to the host Bulldogs.
I think West Point-Beemer has a fairly good chance to win this one despite both teams' records.
I feel the Cadets have played tougher teams, and a lot of Howells-Dodge's wins are over sub par competition.
Still though West Point-Beemer figures to have their hands full in this one.
The winner gets Wisner-Pilger later that evening, and that figures to be a tough match for whoever wins.
Anything can happen in this tournament though, and I feel this tournament could be full of upsets as I think it could be the year for it.
Things are wide open as far as I'm concerned.
I don't know if you can flat out say there's a favorite or anything like that.
I feel the playing field is pretty even this year.
The Cadets have to come out and play their game and throw a little something extra at the Jaguars.
West Point-Beemer has to throw something at Howells-Dodge that they're not prepared and ready for.
The Cadets have to come out with that magic and fire Thursday night.
West Point-Beemer has to be the aggressor, and take it to the Jaguars for the entire match.
The Cadets have to stay calm and ease the nerves by making plays in the clutch.
West Point-Beemer has to come through when it matters most, and play great Volleyball.
A loss would be tough for the Cadets as they wouldn't get a second match on Thursday as they would receive a bye.
So West Point-Beemer has to do everything in their power to make sure they get a crack at the Gators and aren't the team going home early.
I'm sure the Cadets would love another shot at Wisner-Pilger too.
