Howells-Dodge goes 1-2 at Clarkson/Leigh Invite; swept at Stanton
The Howells-Dodge Volleyball Team went 1-2 at the Clarkson/Leigh Invite on Saturday, downing Pender 2-0, but losing 2-1 to Oakland-Craig and 2-0 to Clarkson/Leigh. The Jaguars were then swept 3-0 at Stanton Tuesday night.
The Jaguars downed the Pendragons 25-19 in set one and 25-21 in set two.
Brooklyn Macholan had 9 kills while Alyssa Coufal and Lexie Brester notched 14 and 7 set assists, respectively.
The Knights topped Howells-Dodge 25-19 in set one and 25-15 in set three after dropping set two 25-16.
The Jaguars fell 25-20 in set one and 25-18 in set two to the Patriots.
Macholan posted 7 kills while Cassie Pieper recorded 10 digs. Taya VanLengen totaled 9 while Coufal registered 13 set assists. Brester chipped in 8.
The Mustangs took set one 25-21, set two 25-20, and set three 25-15.
VanLengen had 9 kills while Macholan posted 7. Coufal served up 17 set assists.
I'm impressed with the way Macholan has stepped up, but otherwise another tough stretch of matches for Howells-Dodge.
The Jaguars (13-8) take part in the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Round Robin on Saturday.
Teams Howells-Dodge will play are the host Bulldogs, Twin River, and Spalding Academy.
Clarkson/Leigh is in the Wisner-Pilger Tournament this year as the Shamrocks replace them.
I think Howells-Dodge can definitely beat the Titans and Shamrocks, but Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family will be really tough.
Not that the Jaguars can't beat the Bulldogs, but H/LHF has been playing pretty good Volleyball lately plus they're on their home floor and Howells-Dodge has really been struggling as of late.
Perhaps this is the tournament where the Jaguars get back on track though.
Howells-Dodge faces West Point-Beemer in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament next Thursday so chances for the Jaguars to work things out and win some matches.
Howells-Dodge certainly needs to pick things up if they want to get back to playing the type of ball they were earlier in the season.
It kind of seems like the Jaguars have struggled against top competition this year.
Howells-Dodge has done a great job of winning the matches on their schedule they are supposed to, but the Jaguars haven't really knocked off any powerhouses yet this year.
Perhaps that will change this weekend and/or next week, and it definitely can.
Macholan needs to keep stepping up for this team offensively, and VanLengen, Coufal, and Brester need to keep playing huge roles offensively as well.
Howells-Dodge needs even better and enhanced play on both sides of the net though.
All the girls on the floor need to be very active and pick up their play.
The players need to hold each other more accountable and improve their stat output and efficiency.
The Jaguars could really benefit from everyone on the team increasing their kill, ace serve, dig, and set assist totals.
The more stats Howells-Dodge puts up the more successful and the better they are going to be as a team.
