BRLD upsets North Bend Central in five set thriller
The BRLD Volleyball Team stunned North Bend Central at home Tuesday night in action heard on 107.9 the Bull, upsetting the Tigers 3-2.
The Wolverines got out to an 11-2 lead in set one and took the set 25-16.
North Bend Central responded in set two, taking a hard fought set 25-23.
The Tigers then went on to win set three 25-16 to go up 2-1.
BRLD refused to quit though as the Wolverines won set four 25-20 to force a decisive fifth set.
The Wolverines went up 14-9 before closing things out 15-13 in set five with an Alyssa Buchholz kill.
BRLD, who improves to 15-11 on the season, was led by Halle Wortman, who had 11 kills. Kelsey Larsen added 10 for the Wolverines.
Co-Head Coach Allie Tietz on the win.
They've came and practiced hard. We've emphasized nothing but starting on top. I told them coming into this game I said we're going to get down, we're going to get into some holes. And it's about how you get out of those holes and how you dig deep. And they dug deep every time we were in a rut, and they fought for everything. So I'm so proud of them."
The Wolverines face Logan View/Scribner-Snyder (12-12) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at North Bend Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.
"I told these girls if they come into any game and they play their game the whole time, they come out of every hole they dig that they'll win any game that comes upon them. Because their want to win, they have it, and these seniors they really want it, and they'll dig deep just like they did tonight."
Tietz said.
The top seeded Tigers await the winner.
The Raiders lost 2-0 to Oakland-Craig and Fremont Bergan at the Oakland-Craig Triangular Tuesday night.
Wow, what a match Tuesday night!!!!
I don't know if I've ever called a more exciting match in my life!!!!
BRLD really got after things and simply wanted it a ton.
The way the Wolverines hustled and moved around was incredible.
BRLD fought hard and never gave up.
The Wolverines played with the heart of a champion.
BRLD did lose 3-1 at Logan View/Scribner-Snyder last Tuesday though.
It will be interesting to see how that match goes, and what a crazy deal it would be if the Wolverines and Tigers rematched in the Conference Tournament.
What a great win this was for BRLD though.
Biggest win of the season for the Wolverines by far, and it had to make BRLD's year for sure.
It's a night these seniors and these players, coaches, fans, and myself will always remember.
The Wolverines played a great match, and it was an instant classic for sure.
I don't know if I've ever been more excited to call a match than I was last night.
I was absolutely jacked and fired up just like the players lol.
This broadcaster was just as excited as the fans and the players to witness BRLD spring this upset.
With that said, the Wolverines have to refocus themselves on the Conference Tournament, and get ready to go again on Thursday.
