Emerson-Hubbard 0-6 in last six matches
The Emerson-Hubbard Volleyball Team is 0-6 in their last 6 matches, losing 3-0 at home to Homer last Thursday night before falling 2-0 to Hartington-Newcastle and Wausa at the Hartington-Newcastle Tournament on Saturday, and then losing 2-0 to Hartington-Newcastle and Winside at the Winside Triangular Tuesday night, and 3-0 at Wakefield-Allen Thursday night.
The Knights won set one 25-10, set two 25-16, and set three 25-7.
Madison Gunderson had 12 digs while Addison Mackling and Isabella Parker-Diaz notched 11 and 8, respectively.
Hartington-Newcastle won the first matchup 25-13 in set one and 25-5 in set two.
Parker-Diaz had 11 digs while Mackling recorded 7.
The Vikings won set one 25-15 and set two 25-17.
Parker-Diaz had 10 kills while Mackling totaled 8.
In the second meeting, Hartington-Newcastle won the first set 25-7 and the second set 25-9.
Mackling and Parker-Diaz each had 9 digs while Brynn Schock tallied 8.
Winside won set one 25-16 and set two 25-7.
Schock had 13 digs while Gunderson contributed 10, and Parker-Diaz 7.
The Pirates lost set one to the Trojans 25-7, set two 25-11, and set three 25-8.
Mackling posted 16 digs while Getsemani Ferrusca totaled 14. Parker-Diaz chipped in 12 while Brianna Bousquet notched 10. Schock and Gunderson each had 7.
Good defensive efforts from Emerson-Hubbard, the Pirates just lack an offensive game.
Emerson-Hubbard (0-24) takes on Osmond (8-10) and Homer (8-17) in the first round of the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at Osmond on Saturday.
The Tigers lost 2-0 to Plainview at the Pierce County Tournament on Thursday while the Knights won 3-1 at Pender Tuesday night.
Osmond defeated the Pirates 2-0 at their home Triangular on September 12th.
The Knights beat Emerson-Hubbard 2-0 at the Emerson-Hubbard Triangular on September 5th, and also won 3-0 on the Pirates' home floor last Thursday night.
It figures to be a tough task for the Pirates to win either match, but I think Emerson-Hubbard just needs to focus on finding an offense and identity.
Tough to ask at this point in the season and tough to do and accomplish, but the Pirates have to keep battling and fighting until the very end.
This tournament is the last regular season action for the Pirates.
There will be a consolation round on Monday at a Site TBD with matches starting at 5:00 p.m. The matches will be best 3 out of 5 as well as opposed to 2 out of 3 like on Saturday.
So Emerson-Hubbard will play a minimum of 3 matches in this tournament, but it could be more if the Pirates somehow manage to win their pool on Saturday and upset Ponca on Monday.
The winner of Saturday's Pool C advances to face the Indians at Homer.
Emerson-Hubbard has an uphill battle on their hands, but the Pirates have to continue to battle and play hard.
I learned this week that there will now not be a co-op between Emerson-Hubbard, Wakefield, and Allen.
I think that hurts Emerson-Hubbard's girls sports, but it is what it is.
So for now the Pirates will continue on, and Emerson-Hubbard will remain by themselves at this time.
The Pirates have a lot of juniors and upperclassmen this year, which is good for the present time.
I don't know what the future holds from a personnel standpoint for Emerson-Hubbard, but the Pirates have to remain focused on this season.
Emerson-Hubbard has to give it their all on Saturday and try and win their first match of the year, or at least take a set.
