Stanton loses to Wayne, sweeps Howells-Dodge
The Stanton Volleyball Team was swept 3-0 at Wayne Thursday night, but then turned around and swept Howells-Dodge 3-0 at home Tuesday night.
The Blue Devils won set one 25-16, set two 25-13, and set three 25-20.
Kinley Pohlman had 9 kills while Ellie Locke totaled 8 kills and 7 digs. Sylvia Cunningham added 7 kills while Jasmine Kment and Marissa Remm each had 16 digs. Morgan Remm posted 8 digs and 12 set assists while Olivia Cunningham and Kaylee Matthies notched 7 digs apiece. Emily Colwell dished out 16 set assists.
The Mustangs topped the Jaguars 25-21 in set one, 25-20 in set two, and 25-15 in set three.
Sylvia Cunningham had 10 kills while Olivia Cunningham registered 8. Marissa Remm totaled 14 digs while Locke compiled 12. Colwell chipped in 7 digs and 13 set assists while Morgan Remm recorded 15 set assists.
A lot of girls have been very efficient and active in the different stat columns, which is a good sign for Stanton.
The Mustangs (13-10) take on Pierce (6-16) on the road Thursday night.
The Bluejays won 2-1 over Boone Central/Newman Grove, but lost 2-0 to Wayne at the Boone Central/Newman Grove Triangular Tuesday night.
This is a match Stanton should win and then the Mustangs get Twin River on the road Tuesday night and Madison in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at home next Thursday.
So really there's no reason why the Mustangs shouldn't be 16-10 heading into their second match of the EHC Tournament against either Clarkson/Leigh or Pender.
And even then Stanton should have a good chance to be 17-10 after next Thursday.
I think the Mustangs have a good chance to make some hay before things are all said and done.
Stanton ought to be feeling pretty confident about where they are and where they stand right now.
I think the Mustangs have done some nice things lately from a statistical standpoint.
Stanton has really gotten after things offensively and defensively, and is an improving team, in my opinion.
The Mustangs may not be quite as good as they have been the past 5 years, but Stanton is still a solid ball club this year.
The Mustangs managed to earn the 3 seed in the Conference Tournament so I think that really says something there.
Stanton is a good team, and should feel really good about themselves heading into Thursday's match at Pierce.
The Bluejays have really struggled this year, and there's no reason why the Mustangs can't and won't sweep them.
A sweep would be just what the doctor ordered for Stanton.
The Mustangs have to take advantage of these next four matches coming up, and find a way to win four in a row.
Stanton has to win the matches they're supposed to, and put themselves in a position to knock off a power or two greater than themselves on paper to this point in the season.
I feel the Mustangs are in prime position to make a little run here at the end of the season so we'll see what Stanton can do.
