North Bend Central wins East Husker Conference Tournament; knocks off Howells-Dodge
The North Bend Central Volleyball Team won the East Husker Conference Tournament, downing Oakland-Craig 2-1 in Saturday's Semifinals in Pender before sweeping Wisner-Pilger 3-0 for the championship. The Tigers then won 3-1 at Howells-Dodge Tuesday night.
NBC beat the Knights 25-15 in set one and 25-19 in set three after losing set two 26-24.
The Tigers won set one over the Gators 25-21, and took sets two and three 25-18.
North Bend Central won sets one, two, and four 25-14 over the Jaguars while losing set three 25-21.
Good, dominant, and assertive play for the Tigers over their last four matches. The loss to BRLD just before the Conference Tournament appeared to have woken up and sparked North Bend Central.
The Tigers (19-7) host Columbus Lakeview (21-9) in the regular season finale Thursday night.
The Viqueens downed Omaha Concordia 2-0, but lost 2-1 to Bishop Neumann at the Bishop Neumann Triangular Tuesday night.
Lakeview has played, beaten, and lost to some really good powerhouse teams that includes Class B Schools.
The Viqueens have probably faced tougher competition this year.
But I really like the way North Bend Central is playing right now.
It's also the last home match of the season and the last time these seniors will ever play a high school match on their home floor.
This is probably also a match the Tigers really need if they hope to have any shot at making a Sub-State match assuming they don't get past Wahoo in Sub-Districts.
It's a huge match for North Bend Central, and the Tigers have to come out and play the way they have lately.
NBC has to start strong the way they did against Malcolm only finish the match strong.
The Tigers kind of get into lulls sometimes and struggle for whatever reason.
North Bend Central has to be on top of their game come Thursday night, and bring the same type of energy and effort they brought last Thursday, Saturday, and Tuesday.
The Tigers have to hustle all over the court and dive after balls in bounds or balls that would cost them a point if not hit back over the net.
North Bend Central has to scrap, fight, and claw, and really get after it Thursday night.
If the Tigers play the way they have lately I could see them winning in four or five sets.
The Viqueens are a really good and tough team though, and NBC has to play very well and up to their potential.
Players like Lauren Emanuel and Megan Ortmeier need to have huge matches for the Tigers.
It would be a big deal for North Bend Central to get to win number 20 as well.
The Tigers have certainly had a nice season, now they just need to cap off the regular season with a win.
