Clarkson/Leigh defeats Humphrey St. Francis, goes 0-3 at Wisner-Pilger Tournament

The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball Team won 3-2 at Humphrey St. Francis Thursday night before losing 2-0 to St. Paul, Wynot, and O'Neill at the Wisner-Pilger Tournament on Saturday.

The Patriots took set one from the Flyers 25-23 before losing set two 25-20. Clarkson/Leigh then won set three 25-21 before losing set four 25-19 and winning set five 15-10.

Cassidy Hoffman totaled 17 kills while Kayden Schumacher had 12 kills and 25 digs. Kim Stodola added 12 kills while Kennedy Settje registered 28 digs. Makenna Held recorded 13 digs and 38 set assists while Alissa Kasik had 13 digs. Brittney Urbanek posted 12 digs while Bailey Lemburg notched 7.

The Wildcats won set one 25-11 and set two 25-23.

The Eagles took set one 25-18 and set two 25-21.

The Blue Devils claimed the first set 25-21, and took the second set 25-23.

Held posted 7 digs and 10 set assists while Settje, Lemburg, and Urbanek totaled 7 digs apiece.

Great effort from and great win for the Patriots on Thursday. Clarkson/Leigh ran into some really good teams on Saturday, and still managed to keep well for the most part I thought.

The Patriots (14-11) battle Pender (6-18) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Stanton on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

The Pendragons lost 3-1 at home to Homer Tuesday night.

The Patriots swept Pender 3-0 at home on September 12th.

I look for Clarkson/Leigh to win again and get another crack at Stanton should the Mustangs get past Madison.

The Patriots have to play the way they did against St. Francis though.

What a great match and win that was.

I feel Clarkson/Leigh has done a really nice job of competing, keeping matches close, and being competitive so far this year.

The Patriots have to keep it up and must keep playing and performing well.

I feel Clarkson/Leigh has a chance to do something in this tournament, but if they play Stanton I don't know if the Patriots can beat the Mustangs.

Clarkson/Leigh beat the Flyers though so certainly anything can happen.

It's just that Stanton has had the Patriots' number.

But first things first Clarkson/Leigh has to worry about beating the Pendragons.

The Patriots have to come out focused and ready to go on Thursday.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be motivated, driven, and must pay attention to detail.

The Patriots have to be smart with heart, and must go out there and give it their all.

Clarkson/Leigh has to get ready to play great Volleyball on Thursday, and be ready to go toe to toe with whoever.

I look for the Patriots to take the Pender set in two, but the Pendragons do have some nice young talent.

Clarkson/Leigh has a lot of veteran, experienced, and young talent blended in though, and has a lot of depth.

And I think that gives the Patriots the advantage.
