Stanton goes 2-1 in East Husker Conference Tournament, loses to LHNE

The Stanton Volleyball Team lost 2-0 to Wisner-Pilger in the East Husker Conference Tournament last Thursday night before winning 2-0 over Twin River and Madison in Consolation Matches at home on Saturday. The Mustangs then lost 3-0 at Lutheran High Northeast Tuesday night to conclude the regular season.

The Gators won set one 25-23 and set two 25-14.

Kinley Pohlman had 7 kills while Olivia Cunningham and Ellie Locke had 8 digs apiece. Bridgett Jensen added 7 digs and 19 assists.

The Mustangs took set one from the Dragons 25-9 and set two 25-14.

Sylvia Cunningham finished with 9 kills while Jensen totaled 12 assists.

Stanton defeated the Titans 25-15 in set one and 25-17 in set two.

Arynn Spence had 7 kills while Jensen notched 19 assists.

The Eagles took set one 25-14, set two 25-11, and set three 25-16.

I thought the Mustangs played well leading up to the LHNE match.

Stanton (7-20) rematches with the Dragons (6-21) on Monday  in the C2-6 Sub-District at Lutheran High Northeast.

Madison beat Schuyler 2-1, but lost 2-0 to Humphrey St. Francis at the Schuyler Triangular Tuesday night.

I think the Mustangs will beat the Dragons again, but the winner gets Lutheran High Northeast.

I thought Stanton improved in each set against the Eagles Tuesday night, and look for the Mustangs to be even more competitive against LHNE should the two teams play again.

I don't know if Stanton would beat the Eagles, but anything can happen at this time of year.

The Mustangs aren't that far removed from being in Lutheran High Northeast's position.

Stanton has to draw back from that experience, and try and knock off the Eagles should the two teams play.

Their efforts may be futile, but the Mustangs have to do everything in their power to win and prolong their season.

Stanton has to rally around one another and maximize their potential and play great Volleyball Monday night.

First serve is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. in Norfolk.
