GACC beats Hartington Cedar Catholic, loses to Battle Creek in 5 sets

The Guardian Angels Central Catholic Volleyball Team beat Hartington Cedar Catholic 3-2 at home Thursday night before losing 3-2 at home to Battle Creek Tuesday night.

The Trojans took set one 25-18 before the Bluejays won sets two and three 25-20. Cedar Catholic won set four 25-19 to force a decisive 5th set won by GACC 15-10.

Sophia Hass had 20 kills and 14 digs while Taylor Timmerman and Andie Guenther each notched 7 kills. Erica Engelmeyer and Kelsy Steffen each racked up 14 digs while Megan Plagge compiled 12 digs and 30 assists. Isabel Hass added 12 digs.

The Bravettes won set one 25-23 before the Bluejays claimed set two 25-21 and set three 25-16. Battle Creek took set four 25-21 and set five 15-6 to complete the comeback.

Sophia Hass finished with 20 kills and 32 digs while Evelyn Wooldrik totaled 12 kills. Timmerman posted 7 kills and 12 digs while Greta Wooldrik recorded 7 kills. Steffen tallied 27 digs while Plagge registered 24 digs and 34 assists. Isabel Hass chipped in 21 digs with Engelmeyer adding 17.

Continued solid play from GACC. The Bluejays just about had it against the Bravettes.

GACC (9-7) plays host to Wisner-Pilger (10-8) and Lutheran High Northeast (25-0) in a Triangular Thursday night.

The Gators beat Madison 2-0 and BRLD 2-1 at their Home Double Triangular last Tuesday night.

The Eagles defeated Clarkson/Leigh and Shelby-Rising City 2-0 at their home Triangular Tuesday night.

Both teams are tough and playing some really good Volleyball right now.

I feel like the Bluejays have a good chance to knock off Wisner-Pilger, but Lutheran High Northeast appears to be unstoppable and untouchable.

I still look for GACC to challenge the Eagles though.

The Bluejays have had a lot of close, five set matches this season, and have had mixed results with that.

I feel like the Wisner-Pilger match could go 3 sets, and if GACC could take a set from LHNE that would be quite something as the Eagles have only lost two sets all year, both coming to Norfolk Catholic.

The Bluejays have to approach both these matches expecting to win and compete though.

GACC isn't about moral victories.

The Bluejays are all about winning championships and excellence.

As good as Lutheran High Northeast is, GACC probably won't be happy about walking a way with a loss to them if that ends up being the case.
