Wisner-Pilger beats Oakland-Craig, loses to North Bend Central

The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team won 3-1 at home over Oakland-Craig last Thursday night before falling 3-1 at North Bend Central Tuesday night.

The Knights won set one 25-20 before the Gators took set two 25-16, set three 25-19, and set four 25-14.

Rachel Otten had 9 kills while Aspin Waterman and Karrin Jindra totaled 7 each. Emily Buhrman notched 23 digs while Waterman and Jinda had 21 and 17, respectively. Adi Meyer added 9 digs and 18 set assists while Erin McGuire recorded 11 set assists.

The Tigers won set one 25-14 and set two 25-13 before Wisner-Pilger took set three 25-18. North Bend Central claimed set four 25-22.

Waterman had 11 kills and 15 digs while Jindra totaled 13 digs. Meyer registered 16 set assists while McGuire notched 8.

Great win over the Knights, but a slow start proved to be costly against the Tigers.

The Gators (6-3) take on Stanton and Pender (3-7) at their home Triangular Tuesday night.

The Mustangs lost 2-0 to Norfolk Catholic at the Norfolk Catholic Triangular Thursday night while the Pendragons were swept by Wakefield-Allen Thursday night.

Both teams figure to present tough challenges for Wisner-Pilger, but I think the Gators have a good chance to sweep this Triangular.

The Mustangs are young and lost a lot of seniors from last year and the Pendragons are young and inexperienced as well.

Wisner-Pilger has a lot of upperclassmen and is veteran laden so that along with being at home gives the Gators the advantage I feel.

That and Wisner-Pilger is a very talented and strong team.

I don't know if the Gators have anyone as strong as Jordan Wegner was for them, but it appears Wisner-Pilger has spread the wealth a little bit more offensively this year.

I feel the Gators are a solid team, and look for Wisner-Pilger to bounce back from Tuesday night's loss.

The Gators need to start off stronger on Tuesday than they did against North Bend Central.

A slow start caught up to Wisner-Pilger Tuesday night so the Gators have to come out stronger and faster out of the gate.

I fully expect the Gators to start both matches well too.

I could see Stanton perhaps winning the first set of their match, but I would look for Wisner-Pilger to win the next two if that were to happen.

I think the Gators have a good chance to win both matches on Tuesday and run their record to 8-3 on the season.

I really think next week has a chance to be a 4-0 week for Wisner-Pilger, and if it is it would be really impressive given the competition they'll be facing.

There's a lot of work to be done if that is to happen though, but it definitely can.

The Gators have to get back to playing the type of Volleyball they were prior to the North Bend Central match.

If Wisner-Pilger does that next week I look for them to be very successful.
