Stanton wins Clarkson/Leigh Triangular; goes 1-2 at Columbus Scotus Invitational
The Stanton Volleyball Team won 2-0 over Madison and 2-1 over Clarkson/Leigh at the Clarkson/Leigh Triangular Thursday night before losing 2-0 to Bishop Neumann and Columbus Scotus, but beating Pierce 2-0 at the Columbus Scotus Invitational on Saturday.
The Mustangs upended the Dragons 25-7 in set one and 25-12 in set two.
Jasmine Kment had 7 digs while Emily Colwell totaled 10 set assists.
Clarkson/Leigh took set one from the Mustangs 25-19 before Stanton came back to win set two 25-13 and set three 25-20.
Ellie Locke had 11 kills while Sylvia Cunningham registered 10. Morgan Remm had 9 digs and 13 set assists while Marissa Remm tallied 7 digs and Colwell 18 set assists.
The Shamrocks defeated Stanton 25-13 in set one and 25-7 in set two.
Marissa Remm had 11 digs while Kment racked up 9.
The Mustangs downed the Bluejays 25-19 in set one and 25-17 in set two.
Cunningham posted 8 kills while Kment recorded 14 digs. Marissa Remm totaled 8 digs while Morgan Remm and Colwell chipped in 12 set assists apiece.
Neumann took out Stanton 25-17 in set one and 27-25 in set two.
Kment posted 14 digs while Locke had 9. Colwell registered 11 set assists.
I think the Mustangs are playing fairly respectable Volleyball right now all things considered.
Stanton (4-3) takes part in the Boone Central Invitational on Saturday.
I'm not sure all who the Mustangs take on in this tournament, but I look for Stanton to step up and perform well.
The Mustangs will have had all week to practice and prepare, and that should help.
Stanton is kind of lacking the statistical dominance they had in the past, but that's to be expected given the class that graduated last year.
I feel this team is doing a nice job of making a name for themselves.
The Mustangs may not be as good or as dominant as in recent years, but Stanton is still a solid ball club.
A win over Clarkson/Leigh is big, and the Mustangs played the Cavaliers tough.
I feel Stanton is team that is only going to get better as the season progresses.
A bit of a slow start for the Mustangs, something they're not used to, but lots of time to get on a roll.
Stanton has to be focused and locked in this weekend, and has to play good Volleyball.
The Mustangs may not have the star power they've had in the past, but Stanton has a solid core group.
Kment, Morgan Remm, Marissa Remm, Locke, Cunningham, and Colwell are all really nice players who are playing well, in my opinion.
The Mustangs need to continue to get solid contributions from them.
And I think as good as those players have been so far I feel they can be even better.
I think offensive consistency is something that could really help Stanton.
I feel the Mustangs lack that right now in that sometimes their offense struggles.
It's simply a matter of playing consistent Volleyball against all opponents, and raising your game and level of play each and every time out.
Stanton has to play the game the same way regardless of if they are playing Columbus Scotus or Madison.
And that is hard and with great effort.
