Winnebago wins own Invite; sweeps Omaha Nation at home
The Winnebago Volleyball Team is coming off four straight sweep wins, downing Omaha Nation, Walthill, and Santee 2-0 at their own Invite on Saturday before sweeping the Chiefs 3-0 at home Tuesday night.
The Indians beat Walthill 25-16 in set one and 25-7 in set two.
Winnebago topped Omaha Nation 25-15 in set one and 25-20 in set two.
The Indians defeated the Warriors 25-15 in set one and 25-13 in set two.
Winnebago defeated the Chiefs in round two 25-21, 25-17, and 25-23.
Great job by the Indians. I feel this is the best stretch of Volleyball Winnebago has played all season.
The Indians (7-3) take on Emerson-Hubbard (0-9) and BRLD (9-9) at the BRLD Triangular Thursday night.
The Wolverines lost 3-0 at Ponca on Monday while the Pirates fell 3-0 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Tuesday night.
Winnebago beat the Pirates 3-1 in their home opener on September 3rd.
I think the Indians are playing better Volleyball now than they were then and am not so sure Emerson-Hubbard is playing as well right now as they were then.
So I look for Winnebago to win that match for sure, and possibly beat BRLD as well.
The Wolverines are a lot like Jekyll and Hyde. BRLD plays well for part of a match or during certain matches, but doesn't play consistently well at all times and struggles to close sets out.
Given that and the way the Indians are playing right now I think Winnebago has to feel very optimistic about their chances.
The Indians have to like their chances of winning and succeeding in this triangular.
I feel this is a step up in competition for Winnebago....at least facing the Wolverines.
A win over BRLD would be a huge win and statement for the Indians, and would turn some heads I feel.
Winnebago has a favorable schedule the rest of the season so the Indians need to come out and at least earn a split Thursday night, if not sweep the Triangular.
Winnebago has to expect to beat both teams, and has to come out and play championship Volleyball.
The Indians have to take it to the Pirates and Wolverines the entire duration of the matches and never let up.
Winnebago has to come out and hit the ball with authority and play with lots of passion, pride, toughness, tenacity, grit, and fire.
I feel the Indians have made a lot of strides this year, and now Winnebago has to go out there and continue to build upon what they have already accomplished.
I feel the Indians have done some nice things this year, now it's time to step things up even further and take that next step.
