Clarkson/Leigh splits home Triangular, tops BRLD
The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball Team is 2-1 in their last three matches, downing Madison 2-0 and losing 2-1 to Stanton at their home Triangular Thursday night. The Patriots then turned around and topped BRLD 3-1 at home Tuesday night.
The Patriots defeated the Dragons 25-17 in set one and 25-11 in set two.
Kayden Schumacher had 11 kills while Kim Stodola and Cassidy Hoffman each totaled 7. Kennedy Settje had 10 digs while Hoffman notched 8. Makenna Held posted 28 set assists.
Clarkson/Leigh took set one from the Mustangs 25-19 before Stanton came back to win set two 25-13 and set three 25-20.
Hoffman and Schumacher each had 8 kills while Settje totaled 7 kills and 7 digs. Brittney Urbanek added 10 digs while Bailey Lemburg had 7. Held chipped in 7 digs and 24 set assists.
The Patriots took set one from the Wolverines 25-21, and won set three 25-17 and set four 25-20 after dropping set two 25-18.
Schumacher and Hoffman each had 13 kills while Stodola notched 11. Settje contributed 8 kills and 25 digs. Urbanek added 16 digs while Held registered 13 digs and 38 set assists. Schumacher and Lemburg recorded 9 and 8 digs, respectively.
Not a bad start to the season for Clarkson/Leigh. The Patriots are only a couple of sets away from being undefeated.
Clarkson/Leigh (2-2) plays host to Pender (3-4) Thursday night.
The Pendragons beat Emerson-Hubbard 2-0, but lost 2-0 to Howells-Dodge at the Howells-Dodge Triangular Tuesday night.
The Patriots nearly beat the Jaguars in five sets so I would look for Clarkson/Leigh to win this one.
I feel the sets will be close and tightly contested, but feel the Patriots will win.
Both teams are relatively young, but I think Clarkson/Leigh has a little more experience and depth than Pender does.
Both teams have bright futures no doubt, and lots of up and coming players will be going at it Thursday night.
Lots of youth in the conference this year, and these two teams are a prime example of that.
A favorable stretch of matches coming up for the Patriots for sure.
A chance for Clarkson/Leigh to rattle off some wins before the schedule gets tougher.
The Patriots are off for an entire week after this match so they have to come out and play well and give themselves something to really build off of in the coming week.
I've been really impressed with how many girls are involved in the stat column for Clarkson/Leigh.
The Patriots have gotten great contributions across the board from the likes of Stodola, Urbanek, Hoffman, Schumacher, Settje, Held, and Lemburg.
Clarkson/Leigh should be very proud of themselves and happy with where they are at right now.
With that said, the Patriots have to strive to be even better and have to keep playing the way they did against the Wolverines.
I feel Clarkson/Leigh has improved each time out, and the win over BRLD was very impressive.
If the Patriots keep playing the way they did against the Wolverines then they're going to be awfully difficult to beat.
Clarkson/Leigh has to keep the positive momentum going, and put together a nice little win streak here to build confidence and momentum.
A win over Pender Thursday night would certainly keep things headed in the right direction.
