BRLD goes 2-1 at Tekamah-Herman Invite; gets swept at Ponca
The BRLD Volleyball Team went 2-1 at the Tekamah-Herman Invite on Saturday, beating the host Tigers 2-0 and Omaha Roncalli 2-1, but losing 2-1 to Fort Calhoun. The Wolverines then went up to Ponca on Monday in action aired on 107.9 the Bull and competed hard, but ultimately fell 3-0.
The Wolverines beat the Pioneers 25-17 in set one before losing set two 25-18 and set three 25-13.
BRLD downed the Crimson Pride 25-20 in set one before dropping set two 25-23 and winning set three 29-27.
The Indians won set one 25-17, set two 25-18, and set three 25-23.
I thought the Wolverines did a nice job getting out to leads on Ponca, but BRLD just couldn't quite finish in sets two and three.
The Wolverines (9-9) host Emerson-Hubbard (0-9) and Winnebago (6-3) in a Triangular Thursday night.
The Indians beat Omaha Nation, Walthill, and Santee 2-0 at the Winnebago Invite on Saturday while the Pirates lost 3-0 at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Tuesday night.
I would say the match against Winnebago will be the tougher of the two, but both teams figure to come to play against BRLD.
The Wolverines have to finish what they started this time around, and pick up two wins.
I think BRLD can definitely win both matches on Thursday, and feel the Wolverines have a good chance to sweep this Triangular.
I feel BRLD is getting closer and playing good Volleyball, the best they have all season, but the Wolverines have to simply learn how to finish matches.
BRLD is young so growing pains are expected, but the Wolverines have to learn from and capitalize on their mistakes.
BRLD has to go out there and be upset about losing, and do something about it.
The Wolverines have to learn how to win against top competition.
The Indians are 6-3 on the year and are a C-1 program, and a win over them would be nice for BRLD.
The Wolverines need to not only sweep this Triangular, they need to dominate it as well.
BRLD has to come out and play well from the onset, and play inspired and with tons of passion, pride, tenacity, physical and mental toughness, grit, and fire.
The Wolverines have to hit the ball with authority and show no mercy against either team.
BRLD has to execute the fundamentals of the game and go out there and excel very well.
The Wolverines need to minimize mistakes and keep the foot on the throttle when building a big lead.
I'm not saying BRLD let up against Ponca the other night, but the Wolverines certainly didn't keep putting the pressure on the Indians, and by letting Ponca back in it it proved to be costly.
So hopefully BRLD learned their lesson in that match, and is ready to rock and roll against both Winnebago and Emerson-Hubbard Thursday night.
