Emerson-Hubbard loses to Omaha Nation and Winnebago

The Emerson-Hubbard Volleyball Team lost 3-0 at home to Omaha Nation Thursday night to open the season before losing 3-1 at Winnebago Tuesday night.

The Chiefs took set one 25-21, set two 25-12, and set three 26-24.

Isabella Parker-Diaz had 9 digs while Madison Gunderson totaled 8.

The Indians won set one 25-15 before the Pirates claimed set two 26-24. Winnebago won set three 25-22, and set four 25-18.

Gunderson and Addison Mackling each had 8 ace serves while Brynn Schock totaled 21 digs. Mackling added 18 digs while Parker Diaz and Brianna Bousquet notched 17 and 16, respectively. Katie Ahlers added 8.

Solid effort by Emerson-Hubbard against both teams, but two matches you would have liked to have won if you are the Pirates.

Emerson-Hubbard (0-2) hosts Homer (0-2) and Ponca (1-1) in a Triangular Thursday night.

The Knights lost 2-0 to Randolph and Hartington Cedar Catholic at the Randolph Triangular on Thursday of last week while the Indians lost 3-0 at home to Wayne Thursday night, and defeated Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 3-0 on the road Tuesday night.

This Triangular figures to be a challenge for the Pirates seeing as both teams are C-2 foes.

Emerson-Hubbard is D-2, but they're at home so that should help.

I felt the Pirates improved from match one to match two, and look for more improvement to be made Thursday night.

I don't know if Emerson-Hubbard will win either match, but I feel the Pirates have what it takes to be competitive and keep things close and make things interesting.

Like last year, Emerson-Hubbard needs someone to step up offensively.

Gunderson and Mackling did an excellent job serving against Winnebago, but the Pirates need someone to step up and be their kills leader.

Emerson-Hubbard is a very good defensive team, but the offense could definitely benefit from a couple players stepping up and setting and hitting well.

The Pirates have to find ways to grow and improve in this one, regardless of what the outcome is on the scoreboard.

Emerson-Hubbard has to be excited and has to come out and play with tremendous pride and energy.

The Pirates have to be enthusiastic and passionate about their play.

Emerson-Hubbard has to take the fight to both opponents, and fight, scrap, and claw the best they can.

Emerson-Hubbard may be the smaller school in both matches from an enrollment standpoint, but that doesn't mean their hearts are small.

I think the Pirates all probably have pretty big hearts, and I look for Emerson-Hubbard to play with a lot of heart and hustle Thursday night.

The Pirates have a few triangulars total in the next two weeks, and one next week includes Pender, but Emerson-Hubbard has to be focused on and worried about Thursday's triangular before looking ahead to the Pendragons and Howells-Dodge.
