West Point-Beemer swept at Norfolk Catholic

Riding the momentum of a sweep of the Crofton Triangular Tuesday night, the Norfolk Catholic Volleyball Team swept West Point-Beemer 3-0 at home Thursday night in a match aired on 107.9 the Bull.

Things were back and forth early on as the match was tied at 4 early on and then again at 14 later on in the first set. The Knights went on to win the set 25-18.

Norfolk Catholic jumped out to a 20-7 lead in set two before the Cadets went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 20-16. The Knights wound up winning the set 25-20.

Norfolk Catholic closed things out in the 3rd set with a 25-15 win.

Sidney Swanson, who was the S&W Welding Player of the game for West Point-Beemer, had a team-high 9 kills for the Cadets, who fall to 10-10 on the season.

West Point-Beemer's Jadyn Meiergerd was the CharterWest Bank Sportsmanship Award Winner.

Strange loss for the Cadets, but credit the Knights, who were hot at the time of the match, and still are playing pretty good Volleyball.

West Point-Beemer takes on Oakland-Craig (6-13) and DC West (12-4) at the DC West Triangular Tuesday night.

The Knights went 1-2 at the Clarkson/Leigh Invite on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and 2-1 to Howells-Dodge, but beating Pender 2-1.

The Falcons swept Boys Town and Omaha Christian Academy at the Boys Town Triangular on Tuesday of last week.

I look for the Cadets to bounce back from Thursday's loss and play well.

DC West will be very tough, but they along with Oakland-Craig are very beatable.

Anyone is beatable on any given night as Norfolk Catholic showed Thursday night so West Point-Beemer has to be optimistic.

The Cadets have to come out and be strong at the net, something the Knights were against them Thursday night.

Norfolk Catholic really came out and executed and was the aggressor, something West Point-Beemer needs to do Tuesday night.

The Falcons will be well rested and the Knights maybe a bit tired, and I feel the Cadets have had just the right amount of rest and recent play to have an advantage.

West Point-Beemer has to shake off the cobwebs of Thursday night and come out and play better matches Tuesday night.

The Cadets have been up and down so far this season so we'll see if West Point-Beemer can start to gain some consistency heading into the East Husker Conference Tournament.

The Cadets are off until the Tournament after this so West Point-Beemer has to make these matches count.

These are big for seeding and other purposes, and the Cadets need to step up and play well.

Swanson has to have big matches for West Point-Beemer, and Kendra Paasch and Brooke Haase and others have to be big at the net.

Players like Brooklyn Weddle, Rebecca Weddell, and others have to be confident and must do well serving the ball.

Big opportunities for the Cadets....West Point-Beemer just has to go out there and play up to their potential.
