GACC loses at David City Aquinas and Norfolk Catholic

The GACC Volleyball Team went 0-2 this week, losing 3-2 at David City Aquinas Monday night and 3-1 at Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night.

The Bluejays lost set one to the Monarchs 25-16 before taking set two 25-23 and set three 25-21. Aquinas won set four 25-20 and set five 15-10.

Sophia Hass had 15 kills and 32 digs while Erica Engelmeyer notched 12 kills. Brooklyn Bailey added 7 kills, 9 blocks, and 9 digs while Angela Jansen totaled 8 blocks. Hanna Knobbe compiled 31 digs while Ally Plagge recorded 17. Reece Snodgrass recorded 15 digs and 38 set assists while Megan Plagge posted 9 digs.

GACC won set one over the Knights 25-19 before dropping set two 25-23, set three 25-9, and set four 25-14.

Hass notched 12 kills and 34 digs while Knobbe totaled 33 digs. Snodgrass registered 17 digs and 23 set assists while Plagge and Engelmeyer posted 14 and 8 digs, respectively.

Tough losses for the Bluejays. I thought GACC competed well against Aquinas, but I'm not sure what happened after set two against Norfolk Catholic.

The Bluejays (8-13) take on Boone Central/Newman Grove (3-22) in the bunny bracket game of the Mid-State Conference Tournament on Monday.

The Cardinals lost 3-0 at home to West Point-Beemer Tuesday night.

The Bluejays defeated Boone Central/Newman Grove 3-0 on the road on September 6th.

I look for GACC to beat the Cardinals and challenge Wayne in the second match of the night should the Bluejays get that far.

I feel GACC can upset the Blue Devils if they get to that match.

First things first though the Bluejays have to take care of business against the Cardinals.

GACC has to try and limit Kylee Rasmussen and Natalee Luettel.

Those two had 8 kills apiece against the Cadets and really led Boone Central/Newman Grove.

The Bluejays have to play like they did early against the Monarchs and Knights.

I felt like GACC was close last week they just couldn't breakthrough.

I look for the Bluejays to make some noise in this tournament and prepare themselves for Sub-Districts though.

GACC has to play with a sense of urgency and purpose on Monday and in the rest of the tournament if they get that far.

The Bluejays have to use the match with the Cardinals as a match to work out the kinks and be in tip top shape for Wayne.

I feel GACC is a much better team than their record shows it's just a matter of becoming consistent and playing well at all times.

This is the Bluejays' last chance to do something and make some noise before sub-districts.

GACC needs to create some momentum before the postseason begins, and a good showing in this tournament would certainly do the job.

The Bluejays need to step up their game and play up to their potential, and find a way to win some matches in this tournament.

The Boone Central/Newman Grove match is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. in Pierce with the winner getting Wayne at 7:30 p.m.
