BRLD goes 0-3 at East Husker Conference Tournament; beats Pender at home
The BRLD Volleyball Team is 1-3 in their last four matches, falling 2-0 to Wisner-Pilger in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family last Thursday night before losing 2-0 to Pender and Oakland-Craig at the Tournament at North Bend Central on Saturday. The Wolverines turned around and beat the Pendragons 3-2 at home Tuesday night.
The Gators topped BRLD 25-19 in set one and 25-12 in set two.
Brandi Simonsen had 17 digs while Kelsey Larsen notched 8.
The Knights beat the Wolverines 25-13 in set one and 25-18 in set two.
Simonsen had 25 digs while Aubrey Berg and Larsen registered 11 and 10, respectively.
In the first matchup, the Pendragons downed BRLD 25-23 in set one and 25-14 in set two.
Simonsen posted 26 digs while Halle Wortman totaled 9. Caragan Tietz recorded 9 digs and 9 set assists while Larsen posted 7 digs.
In the second meeting, the Wolverines upended Pender in set one 25-21 before the Pendragons took set two 25-18 and set three 26-24. BRLD won set four 25-11 and prevailed in set five 15-13.
Wortman finished with 11 kills while Tori Ostrand had 7. Simonsen added 40 digs while Berg compiled 21. Larsen and Kinlee Bacon notched 15 apiece while Tyra Bonneau had 11. Tietz dished out 23 set assists.
Good bounce back win for the Wolverines Tuesday night. It would have been easy for BRLD to rollover and quit, but they didn't.
The Wolverines (10-16) host Tekamah-Herman (3-25) Tuesday night.
The Tigers upset Howells-Dodge 3-1 at home Thursday night.
This figures to be an interesting match all of a sudden.
Tekamah-Herman caught fire and played well Thursday night so who knows what will happen Tuesday night.
I think BRLD is going to need to play as well as they did against Pender if not better to pick up the win.
The Wolverines have to go out there and continue to improve offensively and play tough defense.
BRLD is tough to score on from what I hear so the Wolverines have to continue to get good play defensively.
If the offense could come around like it did against the Pendragons then BRLD could be very good.
This should be a good match Tuesday night that I feel can go five sets.
I look for the Wolverines to come out and play well from the start.
The Tigers might play well from the start as well so I look for this to be a very good battle and match.
BRLD has to be ready to play and can't take Tekamah-Herman lightly.
The Tigers showed what they are capable of Thursday night, and for all we know could be a team with a renewed sense of hope and energy.
The Wolverines can't perform the way they did in the East Husker Conference Tournament.
If BRLD plays like that then they're flirting with danger against Tekamah-Herman at the very least.
The Wolverines only have a couple of regular season matches left, but I feel both are winnable for BRLD.
The Wolverines just have to assert and apply themselves both offensively and defensively to have success.
This is a team that's in a Sub-District that appears to be fairly wide open outside of maybe Wisner-Pilger.
And so if BRLD can pick up a couple of wins to end the regular season who knows what can happen in the postseason.
