Tekamah-Herman upsets Howells-Dodge

There was a new resident in Upset City when Tekamah-Herman hosted Howells-Dodge in high school volleyball on Parents Night Thursday, in action heard on 107.9 The Bull.

The Tigers earned their third win of the season, upsetting the then 15-12 Jaguars 3-1.

The teams changed leads several times in the opening set, with the Tigers eventually winning 25-21.

The story was similar in the second set, with Tekamah-Herman winning 25-20.

The Jaguars seemed to rebound in the third set, downing the Tigers 25-13.

The Tigers wouldn’t be denied on Parents Night, however, as they built and early lead in the fourth set, and went on to win 25-19, claiming the match 3-1.

“We have worked on finishing all year long. And actually, yesterday’s practice was a rough practice, and it was because we were working on finishing and we weren’t getting the job done,” Tigers head coach Becky Rennerfeldt said. “…I honestly think that our record this year is deceiving. You know, we only have two wins, but we have competed all season long with the majority of teams that we’ve played, but we just were never able to just get the job done, and tonight we did, and it was so much fun and the girls deserve this win.”

The Tigers are now 3-25 on the season and wrap up the regular season at BRLD (10-16) Tuesday night.

The Wolverines won 3-2 at home over Pender last Tuesday.

BRLD beat Tekamah-Herman 2-0 back on September 15th at the Tekamah-Herman Invite.

I think this match has a chance to be close and competitive like some of the Tigers' matches have gone this year.

Tekamah-Herman played amazing and awesome Volleyball against Howells-Dodge Thursday night, and I look for the Tigers to carry that play over to Tuesday night.

Perhaps Tekamah-Herman gained some confidence and momentum following Thursday night's match.

I'm not sure exactly what the Tigers did, but Tekamah-Herman played great Volleyball Thursday night and really took it to the Jaguars.

Perhaps this will start a run and perhaps the Tigers have started to figure some things out.

I give Tekamah-Herman a lot of credit for continuing to fight and battle.

This is a young team with limited numbers, and the Tigers have continued to fight, scrap, and claw, and their hard work finally paid off.

I look for Tekamah-Herman's performance Thursday night to carry over into and lead to good things Tuesday night.

I fully expect the Tigers to give the Wolverines all they want and then some.

Tekamah-Herman may be 3-25, but I wouldn't want to face this team right now.

The Tigers are a scary, scrappy team that can come out of nowhere and bite you, in my opinion.

Tekamah-Herman has kept quite a few matches close this year, and have played some quality teams tough, and even beat a quality team in Howells-Dodge.

The Tigers finally got over the hump and downed a good team.

Perhaps that will spark and inspire more good play Tuesday night and in Sub-Districts next week.

Sub-District pairings come out on Thursday.
