Clarkson/Leigh 4-2 in last six matches
The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball Team is 4-2 in their last six matches, sweeping Schuyler 3-0 at home Thursday night before going 2-1 at their own Invite on Saturday, losing 2-1 to David City Aquinas, but beating CWC 2-0 and Cross County 2-1. The Patriots split their home Triangular Tuesday night, winning 2-0 over Shelby/Rising City, and falling 2-0 to Lutheran High Northeast.
The Patriots beat the Warriors 25-10 in sets one and two and 25-18 in set three.
Cassidy Hoffman had 10 kills while Hannah Kasik and Ashlynn Novotny registered 8 apiece. Kaegan Held had 25 set assists.
Clarkson/Leigh topped the Renegades 25-16 in the first set, and 25-18 in the second set.
Kasik and Novotny had 8 kills apiece while Holly Kuhr recorded 7 digs. Held added 7 digs and 15 set assists.
The Cougars won set one over the Patriots 25-19 before Clarkson/Leigh won sets two and three 25-17.
Kasik and Novotny recorded 12 kills apiece while Held dished out 21 set assists.
The Patriots won set one over the Monarchs 25-21 before Aquinas won set two 25-20 and set three 26-24.
Novotny led the way with 12 kills while Kasik chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs. Kuhr added 10 digs while Halee Steffensmeier recorded 8. Held posted 8 digs and 34 set assists.
The Eagles won sets one and two 25-22.
Novotny had 7 kills while Kasik registered 8 digs. Held added 7 digs and 22 set assists.
The Patriots beat the Huskies 25-22 in the first set, and 25-12 in the second set.
Kasik finished with 10 kills while Held posted 21 set assists.
I thought Clarkson/Leigh played really well on Saturday and respectable Tuesday night. The Patriots were dominant against Schuyler.
Clarkson/Leigh (15-5) hosts Humphrey St. Francis (9-7) Thursday night.
The Flyers won 2-1 over Elgin Public/Pope John and 2-0 over O'Neill St. Mary's at their home Triangular Tuesday night.
Like the Patriots, Humphrey St. Francis has played a lot of teams bigger than them classification wise and a tough schedule.
This is one Clarkson/Leigh should and needs to get though.
The Patriots are at home, and are a C-2 team.
I feel Aquinas is probably better than the Flyers, and Clarkson/Leigh took the Monarchs to the brink.
The Patriots are 5-2 against D-1 or D-2 competition this year with losses coming to Lutheran High Northeast and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family.
Clarkson/Leigh can't make it a Humphrey sweep of the Patriots Thursday night.
The Patriots could get revenge on the Bulldogs at the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Round Robin on Saturday, but I think Clarkson/Leigh just assumes win this one to give themselves a better chance of doing just that.
Kasik and Novotny need to keep playing great offensively for the Patriots, and Held needs to continue to be a staple offensively and defensively.
Clarkson/Leigh has to own Humphrey St. Francis Thursday night, and defend their home court.
This is a match the Patriots should win it's just a matter of going out there and getting the job done.
This is a key stretch in the season for Clarkson/Leigh with the East Husker Conference Tournament coming up next week.
The Patriots need to play well for seeding purposes in the tournament, and to set the stage for what's to come in the postseason.
Clarkson/Leigh has to step things up and play at an even higher level than they have at any point this year.
The Patriots are already a great team, they just need to go out there and make all their dreams and goals come true.
Winning matches you should, such as the match against the Flyers Thursday night, would be a good start in making that happen.
