West Point-Beemer defeats Lyons-Decatur Northeast

The West Point-Beemer Cadets started the season with a 3-2 win at Lyons-Decatur Northeast Thursday evening.

West Point-Beemer won set one 25-22 before the Cougars came back to take set two 27-25 and set three 25-17.

The Cadets responded by winning set four 25-22, and set five 15-12.

West Point-Beemer won a hard fought match. The Cadets showed some resiliency by coming back and winning the match. West Point-Beemer could have easily folded after losing set three. Credit the Cadets for never giving up.

West Point-Beemer (1-0) battles Wisner-Pilger (5-0) on the road Tuesday evening.

The Gators went undefeated in the Northeast Nebraska Tournament this weekend, downing Wakefield, Scribner-Snyder, North Bend Central, Lutheran High Northeast, and Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

Wisner-Pilger beat some good teams, and the Cadets are going to have to play an outstanding match if they want to hand the Gators their first loss of the season.

West Point-Beemer has to play a lot better than they did against Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

The Cougars are a solid team who proved to be a great challenge for the Cadets, and I anticipate Wisner-Pilger being even tougher.

The Gators appear to be primed and ready to have a great season, and West Point-Beemer is just another team standing in their way of doing big things.

The Cadets have to take their chance to upset Wisner-Pilger as a personal challenge.

Each and every player has to raise their level of play.

West Point-Beemer also plays Twin River this week. That will be the Cadets' first home match of the season.

The Titans went 1-3 in their first four matches to open the season, downing Osceola 3-1 on the road Thursday night before going 0-3 at the Shamrock Invite on Saturday, losing 2-0 to Norfolk Catholic, Stanton, and Bishop Neumann.

I would say West Point-Beemer has a fairly decent chance to go 1-1 this week. 2-0 would be an incredible feat for this team, but the Gators are tough.

The Twin River match is on Thursday.
