Wisner-Pilger goes 5-0 in Northeast Nebraska Tournament
The Wisner-Pilger Gators played very impressive volleyball this weekend, going 5-0 in the Northeast Nebraska Tournament.
Wisner-Pilger defeated Wakefield and Scribner-Snyder 2-0 on Thursday, Lutheran High Northeast 2-0 on Saturday, and North Bend Central and Guardian Angels Central Catholic 2-1, also on Saturday.
The Gators took set one against Scribner-Snyder 25-4, and won set two 25-9.
Bailey Batenhorst and Tessa Ruskamp had 7 kills apiece to lead Wisner-Pilger. Sara Smyth posted 7 digs.
The Gators took the first and second sets from Wakefield 25-14.
Batenhorst totaled 11 kills while Smyth and Ruskamp had 9 and 8, respectively.
Wisner-Pilger took set one from GACC, 25-20. The Bluejays rebounded to win set two 25-17, but the Gators won set three 25-19.
Batenhorst had 8 kills and 11 digs while Smyth and Sydney Bradfield recorded 8 and 7 kills, respectively. Ruskamp added 12 digs.
Wisner-Pilger took care of LHNE 25-19 in set one, and won set two 25-20.
Smyth had 9 kills to lead the way. Batenhorst notched 7, and Ruskamp added 12 digs.
The Gators won set one over the Tigers 25-19, lost set two 26-24, but rebounded to win set three 25-22.
Batenhorst led the way with 18 kills. Bradfield added 11 kills and 8 digs while Smyth recorded 9 kills. Ruskamp totaled 8 kills and 17 digs. Sydney Williams chipped in 7 digs.
Wisner-Pilger pulled out some tough wins this weekend. The Gators not only took care of business against the teams they were supposed to beat, they knocked off two good teams in GACC and North Bend Central.
The Gators were challenged, but prevailed like a champion.
Wisner-Pilger (5-0) looks to keep things rolling Tuesday night with a home win over West Point-Beemer (1-0).
The Cadets downed Lyons-Decatur Northeast 3-2 on the road Thursday.
And while that was a big and impressive comeback win for West Point-Beemer, I'm not sure if the Cadets are on the same level as the Gators.
Wisner-Pilger looks very impressive right now, and I just don't see West Point-Beemer slowing them down.
The fact the game is in Wisner helps the Gators too.
The only thing that could slow down Wisner-Pilger is the amount of matches they played this weekend. The Cadets could be the fresher team, but that doesn't always mean everything.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Gators swept West Point-Beemer. I could see the Cadets winning a set, but I don't look for this match to go more than four sets.
I don't think there's any doubt Wisner-Pilger will win. The Gators are playing outstanding volleyball right now.
It's Wisner-Pilger's only match of the week so all their attention has to be on the Cadets.
The Gators have to make the most of their lone match this week, and get the job done.
Wisner-Pilger has to execute in all facets of the game. If the Gators play the way they are capable of, they should be fine.
