Lyons-Decatur Northeast loses to West Point-Beemer

The Lyons-Decatur Northeast Cougars had West Point-Beemer beat at home on Thursday as they were up 2-1, but the Cadets came back to win the match 3-2.

West Point-Beemer won set one 25-22 before the Cougars came back to take set two 27-25 and set three 25-17.

The Cadets responded by winning set four 25-22, and set five 15-12.

Kelly Wakeley had 11 kills and 16 digs while Brianne Haskell totaled 8 kills and 11 digs. Lexie Bacon notched 13 digs and 17 assists while Abby Peterson recorded 27 digs. Mickayla Petersen added 16 assists.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast played well, but just couldn't quite get the job done against West Point-Beemer. Credit the Cadets for coming back, but the Cougars had their chances.

Lyons-Decatur Northeast (0-1) looks to rebound Tuesday when they take on Clarkson/Leigh (1-1) on the road.

The Patriots lost 2-0 to Stanton on Thursday at the Madison Triangular, but beat the host Dragons 2-0.

We don't really know a lot about either team so far, but I anticipate this being a close match.

I feel like both teams are still trying to find their way a little bit, still trying to establish an identity.

I think the match could easily go four sets with a strong possibility of it going five.

For the Cougars it's about learning how to win. Lyons-Decatur Northeast has to put teams away when they have the chance.

It's possible the Cougars could get up 2-0 or 2-1 on Clarkson/Leigh. If that's the case, Lyons-Decatur Northeast can't let the Patriots come back.

The longer the Patriots hang in the match, the more difficult it is going to be for the Cougars to win.

I think there's a fairly good chance Lyons-Decatur Northeast wins, but the Cougars aren't going to have an easy time. LDNE will have had to earn the win should they get it.

The Cougars are participating in the Wakefield Tournament later this week so it's important for Lyons Decatur-Northeast to play well against Clarkson/Leigh to build some positive momentum for that tournament.

It's critical for the Cougars to be on top of their game on Tuesday and during the rest of the week.
