Pender finishes 2-2 in Northeast Nebraska Tournament
Pender went 2-2 in the Northeast Nebraska Tournament last week, losing 2-1 to Guardian Angels Central Catholic and 2-0 to Fremont Bergan on Thursday, but coming back to defeat Allen and Scribner-Snyder 2-1 on Saturday.
In the Bergan match, the Knights won the first set 25-15, and the second set 25-23.
The Pendragons took set one from the Bluejays, 25-21. GACC bounced back to win set two 25-12, and set three 25-15.
Pender downed Scribner-Snyder 25-22 in set one, lost set two 25-23, but prevailed in set three 25-19.
The Pendragons took set one from the Eagles 25-21, lost set two 27-25, but rebounded to win set three 25-21.
Pender played pretty respectable volleyball this weekend. It was a big deal just to take a set from GACC. I think that's something that definitely helped the Pendragons' confidence heading into Saturday.
Pender (2-2) battles Emerson Hubbard (2-0) and North Bend Central (3-2) at the Emerson-Hubbard Triangular on Tuesday.
The Tigers defeated Allen and Lutheran High Northeast 2-0 and Oakland-Craig 2-1, but lost 2-1 to Wisner-Pilger and Guardian Angels Central Catholic in the Northeast Nebraska Tournament.
The Pirates swept Ponca and Homer 2-0 in the Homer Triangular on Thursday, and appear to be a pretty solid team as well.
Both teams will no doubt provide stingy challenges for the Pendragons, but I think the momentum Pender gained from the GACC match has a chance to carry over into Tuesday.
The Pendragons certainly have to raise their level of play and perform even better than they did on Saturday, but if Pender does those things, don't be surprised to see them push both teams and give each a run for their money.
I'm not saying the Pendragons are going to win both matches, but I think Pender has a chance to make both matches close, and perhaps win one.
These are the Pendragons' only matches until next Thursday so they have to make them count.
Pender has to come out and have a good showing. The Pendragons would no doubt love to turn a few heads and surprise some folks.
Win or lose I think this Pender team is headed in the right direction. The Pendragons had a rough start to the season with the Bergan match, but have played well since.
We will see if Pender can continue their good play on Tuesday.
