Wisner-Pilger falls at North Bend Central

For the first time this season, the Wisner-Pilger Gators lost a match, falling 3-2 at North Bend Central on Tuesday.

The Gators took the first two sets 25-20 and 25-21, but the Tigers rallied to win the next three sets 25-23, 25-17, and 15-12.

Sydney Bradfield led the way with 19 kills and 7 digs while Bailey Batenhorst had 13 kills. Tessa Ruskamp notched 9 kills and 9 digs while Sara Smyth totaled 7 kills, 7 blocks, and 13 digs. Lauren Jacobsen added 12 digs.

Wisner-Pilger nearly got the job done. The Gators had North Bend Central right where they wanted them, they were just unable to finish them off.

Wisner-Pilger (6-1) takes on Pender (2-6) and Stanton (14-1) in the Pender Triangular on Tuesday.

The Mustangs beat Boone Central/Newman Grove, Norfolk Catholic, Arlington, Hartington Cedar Catholic, and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge 2-0 last week.

The Pendragons lost 3-0 to Wakefield on Thursday.

The Gators should have no trouble with Pender whatsoever. Stanton could be a different story though.

Wisner-Pilger definitely has to up their level of play when they take on the Mustangs.

I think the Gators are definitely capable of winning a set against Stanton, but it will be very difficult to defeat the Mustangs.

Wisner-Pilger is the kind of team who could knock off Stanton, but it's going to take an amazing effort on the Gators' part.

Wisner-Pilger has to fight and battle hard from start to finish, and can't give in whatsoever.

The Gators have to make the Mustangs earn their points, and can't beat themselves.

More importantly, Wisner-Pilger has to close out Stanton if they get the chance.

The Gators have Battle Creek and Crofton on Thursday so two wins on Tuesday would really give Wisner-Pilger a gigantic momentum boost.

The Gators host the Wisner-Pilger Classic on Saturday.
