Winnebago begins season 1-3
The Winnebago Indians are off to a 1-3 start as they lost 2-0 to Cedar Bluffs and Mead in the Mead Triangular on Thursday, but rebounded to beat Logan View 2-1 on Saturday at the David City Tourney before losing 2-0 to Fort Calhoun.
Winnebago lost set one 25-6 to the Wildcats, and dropped set two 25-17.
Mead took set one from the Indians 25-14, and won set two 25-8.
Winnebago earned a 25-16 opening set win over Logan View. The Raiders won set two 25-11, but the Indians rebounded to win set three 25-14.
Winnebago has gotten off to somewhat of a slow start this season. The Indians aren't doing bad, but I'm sure Winnebago feels they could be doing better right now.
The Indians (1-3) battle Walthill (0-3) on the road Thursday.
The Blujays lost 3-0 at Cody-Kilgore on Friday before losing 2-0 to Bancroft-Rosalie and Winside in their own triangular on Tuesday.
This is a match Winnebago should win rather easily.
Walthill hasn't really challenged any of their three opponents so far this season, and I don't expect the Blujays to challenge the Indians.
This should be a match where Winnebago gains quite a bit of confidence heading forward.
Winnebago has Ponca and Allen at home in a triangular next week so Winnebago has to pick up a win over Walthill Thursday to gain momentum for that triangular.
The Indians have an excellent opportunity to get their season headed in the right direction.
Winnebago hasn't had a lot of success so far, but a win Thursday could give this team new hope and new life. Plus you have to figure the Indians will be improved from week one to this week and next week.
Being successful is a matter of improving everyday. And for Winnebago to have the kind of season they are hoping for, they have to continue to get better every time they step on the floor for practice or a match.
It's not how you start, it's how you finish, and so the Indians shouldn't be too alarmed by their slow start to the season. If Winnebago keeps improving throughout the season, and puts themselves in a position to play their best volleyball come sub district time, then they will be in good shape.
The Indians' road to redemption starts Thursday at Walthill. Winnebago has to defeat the Blujays. It's a must win for the Indians.
