Stanton goes 3-0 at Boone Central Invite

The Stanton Volleyball team went 3-0 at the Boone Central Invite on Saturday, beating the host Cardinals 2-0, and Ord and Columbus Lakeview 2-1.

The Mustangs defeated BC/NG 25-5 in set one, and 25-13 in set two.

Jessie Brandl led the way with 7 kills while Bree Burtwhistle and Makenna Espinoza totaled 10 set assists apiece.

The Vikings won the first set 25-23 before Stanton took sets two and three 25-20 and 25-21.

Brandl notched 13 kills and 11 digs while Hannah Hepper and Burtwhistle registered 11 and 9 kills, respectively. Jaiden Hartl totaled 10 digs while Espinoza recorded 7 digs and 14 set assists. Burtwhistle posted 17 set assists.

The Chanticleers claimed set one 25-19 before Stanton earned a 25-21 win in set two, and won set three 25-18.

Burtwhistle and Brandl led the way with 11 kills each while Heppner totaled 9. Hartl added 14 digs while Brandl and Burtwhistle managed 11 and 9, respectively. Burtwhistle finished with 21 set assists with Espinoza notching 12.

I thought the Mustangs played great Volleyball over the weekend. Stanton easily defeated Boone Central/Newman Grove, and showed a lot of resolve and moxie in coming back against Lakeview and Ord.

The Mustangs (7-1) take on Norfolk Catholic (1-5) and the Cardinals (2-3) at the Boone Central Newman/Grove Triangular Thursday night.

Stanton goes back to the same place it just went 3-0...how ironic.

The Knights lost 3-0 at Wahoo this past Thursday.

Norfolk Catholic's record is deceiving. They have lost to five very good teams, including 2-0 to the Mustangs.

Stanton has to be ready for both teams again though as you can bet both will give the Mustangs their best shot this time around.

Stanton may have won easily against both teams the first times around, but it's never easy to beat a team twice in a season, and so the Mustangs have to play just as well as they did the first times around if not better.

Brandl, Burtwhistle, Heppner, Hartl, and Espinoza have to keep producing for this team.

Those five were on top of their game all weekend long, and I look for all five to have great matches again on Thursday.

I feel these two matches against Norfolk Catholic and Boone Central/Newman Grove will be a good tune up for Saturday's Stanton Invite.

I think there's a lot of potential and opportunities for wins for the Mustangs this week and weekend, and I look for Stanton to make the most of them.

I think the Mustangs will continue this past weekend's success and pick up even more wins this week and weekend.

Stanton is a very tough team, and anyone who plays them is going to have to play exceptional Volleyball to knock them off.

So far Columbus Scotus is the only team to beat the Mustangs, and enough said given the pride and tradition the Shamrock program has.

Scotus isn't in Stanton's Tournament on Saturday so the Mustangs should have a good shot to win the tournament, and defend their home floor.
