Oakland-Craig goes 1-2 at Scribner-Snyder Invite; swept at Tekamah-Herman Triangular
The Oakland-Craig Volleyball Team lost 2-1 to Elkhorn Valley, and 2-0 to Ponca at the Scribner-Snyder Invite on Saturday, but beat St. Edward 2-0 at the Invite. The Knights fell 2-0 to Stanton and Tekamah-Herman at the Tekamah-Herman Triangular Tuesday night.
Oakland-Craig downed the Beavers 25-10 in set one, and 25-17 in set two.
The Falcons won set one 25-17 before the Knights took set two 25-22. Elkhorn Valley won set three 25-22.
The Indians took the first set from Oakland-Craig, 25-11, and won the second set 25-8.
In the Stanton match, the Mustangs took set one 25-14, and set two 25-11.
Natalia McNeill and Beth Moseman notched 3 kills apiece to lead the Knights.
In the Tekamah-Herman match, the Tigers defeated the Knights 25-15 in the first set, and 25-8 in the second set.
McNeill paced Oakland-Craig (2-14) with 8 kills.
I thought the Knights played really well against St. Edward, and well enough to beat the Falcons, but otherwise Oakland-Craig's struggles continued.
The Knights take on Howells-Dodge (9-5) in a match that can be heard on 107.9 the Bull Thursday night.
The Jaguars lost 2-1 to BRLD and 2-0 to Wisner-Pilger at the Wisner-Pilger Double Triangular Tuesday night.
Howells-Dodge has really stumbled in their last three matches, and I think this match is an opportunity for Oakland-Craig to do something and get back on track.
Both teams are very young, and when there's so much youth on both sides of the net, you just never know what is going to happen.
So the Knights have to come in optimistic and thinking they can win.
Oakland-Craig has to think they have a realistic and legit shot to compete well in and perhaps win this match because I believe they do.
I thought the Knights showed flash and potential Tuesday night, but there just wasn't enough consistency in Oakland-Craig's play for the Knights to do something.
Perhaps that will change Thursday night. Oakland-Craig could really benefit from that happening because the Knights could really use a signature win.
Oakland-Craig has tried their best and fought hard all season, they just don't have much to show for it.
But given the Jaguars' recent struggles, the Knights have to be confident and think they've got a shot in this match.
Playing at Howells-Dodge is never easy, but Oakland-Craig has to head in there and just play their game.
The Knights have to drown out any crowd noise if at all possible, and just do what they do.
Oakland-Craig can't get rattled or frustrated. The Knights have to remain calm at all times, and can't get flustered, nervous, or scared at any time in the match either.
The Jaguars will probably go on some scoring runs, but how Oakland-Craig responds to those runs could very well dictate and determine how the rest of the match goes.
The Knights have to play with great resolve, and must respond to adversity as best they can.
If Oakland-Craig can do these things, then I think a win, or at least a set win or two, is not out of the realm of possibility.
First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m. on the Bull.
