The Howells-Dodge Volleyball team is off to a solid 5-1 start.

The Jaguars lost 3-2 at home on opening night to West Point-Beemer on Thursday, but downed Winside 2-0, and Randolph and Hartington-Newcastle 2-1 at the Hartington-Newcastle Round Robin on Saturday. The Cadets took set one from the Jaguars, 25-14, before Howells-Dodge won set two 25-23. West Point-Beemer claimed set three 25-13 and won set five 15-9 after the Jaguars forced a fifth set by winning set four 25-18.

Very strong start to the season for this young Howells-Dodge team. I think the Jaguars are better than people expected them to be.

Howells-Dodge (5-1) takes on Shelby/Rising City (0-1) in their first game of the Howells-Dodge Tournament on Saturday.

The Huskies were swept 3-0 by Cross County at home on Thursday.

I look for the Jaguars to do well in this tournament.

Howells-Dodge will play Shelby/Rising City, Elkhorn Valley, and Elgin Public/Pope John.

I feel the Jaguars have what it takes to win all three matches, and will do no worse than 2-1.

Howells-Dodge certainly needs to play the way they have since the West Point-Beemer match, but if the Jaguars do that then it should be a good day for the Green, Black, and White.

Howells-Dodge has progressed quite nicely and fast, which is surprising to me.

I thought it might be a rebuilding and down year for the Jaguars, but nope...Howells-Dodge has simply reloaded.

I look for the Jaguars to play at a very high level on Saturday, and give all three teams a tough match.

The Wolfpack figures to be the toughest team of all of them, but there's no doubt in my mind that Howells-Dodge can knock them off.

The Jaguars figure to be challenged by all three teams, but I look for Howells-Dodge to come through in the clutch like they always do.

The Jaguars are truly a force to be reckoned with this year, and I look for Howells-Dodge to have a good showing on Saturday.

With that said, the Jaguars have to limit service and attacking errors, and must pass, hit, serve, serve receive, and block well.

In other words, Howells-Dodge has to execute in all facets of the game on Saturday to be successful.

There can't be one part of the Jaguars' game that is off if they want to continue their winning ways, in my opinion.

Sure teams are going to have off nights and off matches, that's all part of the game, but the more Howells-Dodge can avoid that the more winning they are going to do I would say.

This team has been led by Prusa, Jessi Brester, Kulhanek, VanLengen, Coufal, Cech, and Lexie Brester. These seven players have done a great job and meant so much to this team, and I look for all of them to keep up the tremendous work.
