The BRLD Volleyball Team is 3-3 so far this season, losing 2-0 to Wakefield and Wisner-Pilger at the Northeast Nebraska Tournament on Thursday, before downing Oakland-Craig and Pender 2-0, and Allen 2-1, at the tournament on Saturday. The Wolverines fell 3-1 at Clarkson/Leigh Tuesday night.

The Eagles won the first set 25-21 before BRLD took set two 25-10 and set three 25-20.

The Wolverines took the opening set against the Patriots 25-20, but Clarkson/Leigh responded by winning the next three sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-18.

Head Coach Rebecca James says her team's inexperience played a role. "They have really good hitters and our blockers Morgan Bonneau and Kelsey Larsen they're improving...already throughout the season they're improving, but they're kind of inexperienced. And so that came to prove tonight. But man I'm just proud of the team, and the defense that we played. We really did not let the ball hit the ground, and we wanted to win so we saw that. It just wasn't a W for us."
The Wolverines (3-3) take part in the Wakefield Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
James says they'll put the loss behind them with another busy week ahead with the Wakefield Tournament. "We are going to play Homer (0-3) and Wakefield (1-4) first round. Well and then Hartington CC on Saturday. But on the other side is Pierce, Ponca, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, and I can't think of the other team. But it's going to be a good tournament for us."
You ought to think BRLD has a good chance to have success against Wakefield and Homer right off the bat.
I look at those two matches as very winnable for the Wolverines.
I think this tournament allows BRLD to have success, but tests the Wolverines at the same time.
I look for it to be a successful rest of the week for BRLD.
I thought the Wolverines started off real well and competed well throughout the match against the Patriots, who are a very good team by the way, and will carry their hard play over to this tournament.
BRLD should be able to win some matches in this tournament, and have success.
The Wolverines are still young and a work in progress, but I feel BRLD got much better after Thursday's losses.
You would of liked to have seen the Wolverines finish stronger, or at least force a fifth set against Clarkson/Leigh, but BRLD has done a pretty good job of finishing matches in their wins this year.
This team is still young, and it will take time for them to reach their peak so patience is the key with this team.
I feel that both Bonneau's, Gatzemeyer, and Ahlers are all playing good, consistent Volleyball right now, and if they can keep it up and other girls can follow suit then this Wolverine team could be very tough down the stretch.
BRLD will be playing a lot of Volleyball the next 2 1/2 weeks so every one of these matches is a chance to grow and improve, and get ready for the stretch run in October.
Things to work on for the Wolverines include competing at the highest level possible during losses, and being consistent at the start of matches...starting off matches strong on a consistent basis.
It will be interesting to see how BRLD stacks up against some of the tougher teams in this tournament like Ponca and Hartington Cedar Catholic...should the Wolverines face either opponent.
It might be pretty tough for BRLD to beat those teams, but the Wolverines should have a good chance to win any of their other matches in this tournament.
