Clarkson/Leigh 2-1 so far this season

The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball team is 2-1 on the young season.

The Patriots downed Madison 2-0, but lost 2-0 to Stanton at the Stanton Triangular last Thursday night before topping BRLD 3-1 at home Tuesday night.

Clarkson/Leigh defeated the Dragons 25-11 in sets one and two.

Hannah Kasik led the way with 9 kills while Sydney Folken registered 7. Kaegen Held registered 20 set assists.

The Mustangs downed the Patriots 25-16 in the first set, and 25-8 in the opening set.

Kasik had 7 digs while Held notched 10 set assists.

The Wolverines took the opening set 25-20, but the Patriots responded by winning the next three sets 25-20, 25-22, and 25-18.

Kasik led all players with 23 kills and posted 20 digs while Folken and Paige Moore added 9 and 8 kills, respectively. Halee Steffensmeier totaled 28 digs while Held registered 12 digs and 42 set assists. Holly Kuhr added 9 digs while Beth Wiese and Brittney Urbanek recorded 7 apiece.

Head Coach Rebecca Schneider says her girls started out flat. "Our passing is what killed us tonight. Even in the sets that we won we just couldn't get that pass to where we needed it to go and therefore our setter couldn't get the ball where she needed it to go, and our hitters couldn't capitalize. So we just didn't come out very strong in that first set, and then the next ones we definitely picked up our intensity and found our groove."

The Patriots (2-1) are off until Tuesday when they take on Scribner-Snyder on the road.

The Trojans beat Cedar Bluffs 2-1, and lost 2-1 to Howells-Dodge at their home triangular this past Tuesday night.

Scribner-Snyder appears to be a very formidable foe this season, and Clarkson/Leigh is going to need to be ready to go from the start Tuesday night.

The Patriots are a very good team, but to be a great team, they need to start fast on a consistent basis, in my opinion.

Clarkson/Leigh disposed of Madison pretty easily, but struggled against Stanton and in the opening set against the Wolverines.

It's early in the season and certainly players are still trying to find their way and get their roles down, but the Patriots need to do what they did in the last three sets of the BRLD match at all times this season.

Perhaps the start of the match with the Wolverines gave Clarkson/Leigh the wake up call they may have needed.

The Patriots are a very solid team, but to beat teams like GACC in Subdistricts, the Patriots have to play good, consistent volleyball from start to finish.

Every match counts and matters, and so Clarkson/Leigh has to value each match the same and if it is their last.

Just a few adjustments to make....otherwise the Patriots shouldn't change much of what they're doing.

Clarkson/Leigh has a chance to have a really good season, in my opinion, and the Patriots figure to have a lot of opportunities to have success next week, although they will be challenged.

We will find out just how good this Clarkson/Leigh team is by how they play next week.

I think the Patriots are legit and for real, but we'll see just how good Clarkson/Leigh is based on how they fare next week.

First things first though, the Patriots have to focus on taking down the Trojans of Scribner-Snyder. A win would definitely get the week started off the right way without a doubt. A loss could potentially affect the week, in my opinion, so it's important for Clarkson/Leigh to set the tone with a win Tuesday night.
