Emerson-Hubbard starts season 1-5
The Emerson-Hubbard Volleyball Team is 1-3 so far this year, losing 2-0 to Ponca, but beating Homer 2-1 at the Ponca Triangular last Thursday, and then losing 2-0 to Pender and North Bend Central at the Pender Triangular Tuesday night, before falling 2-0 to Randolph and Osmond at the Randolph Triangular Thursday night.
The Indians defeated the Pirates 25-5 in set one, and 25-12 in set two.
The Knights grabbed the first set 25-18, but Emerson-Hubbard won set two 25-22, and set three 25-19.
North Bend Central beat the Pirates 25-10 in the first set, and 25-1 in the second set.
The Pendragons claimed set one 25-15, and set two 25-17.
Both Randolph and Osmond beat Emerson-Hubbard 25-12 in the first set, and 25-19 in the second set.
Tough start to the season for the Pirates, but I think Emerson-Hubbard has to be encouraged by the way they came back against Homer and won that match.
The Pirates (1-5) take on Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (1-3) on the road Tuesday night.
The Bears lost 2-0 to Ponca and Lutheran High Northeast at the Wakefield Tournament Thursday night.
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge's lone win is also against Homer, who the Bears beat 3-2. Laurel-Concord-Coleridge competed much better against the Cardinals, taking Randolph to five sets.
This should still be a good match that can go either way though. I feel Emerson-Hubbard is equipped and prepared to take out the Bears, and pick up a win.
Next week is a big week for the Pirates with Allen on Thursday.
I think Emerson-Hubbard has a chance to pick up a couple of wins and get their season on the right track.
The Pirates just have to remember what they did to beat Homer, and use that the rest of the season.
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Allen matches are both very winnable for Emerson-Hubbard, the Pirates just have to play their best Volleyball.
Emerson-Hubbard has to execute in all facets of the game, which includes good serving, passing, serve receiving, hitting, and blocking.
The Pirates have to make the Bears and Eagles earn their points, and not give them easy, cheap, and free points.
In other words, Emerson-Hubbard can't beat themselves.
The Pirates have to control what they can control, which is their effort and execution.
If Emerson-Hubbard does everything the right way and plays as well as they can then the winning will take care of itself.
The competition has been pretty tough for the Pirates so far overall, but Emerson-Hubbard should be able to hang better with teams like Pender, and not get swept by them.
Perhaps the Pirates will have good showings both nights next week. Two wins would be just what the doctor ordered, and a nice way for Emerson-Hubbard to get back on track.
