Wisner-Pilger wins Scribner-Snyder Triangular; sweeps Oakland-Craig in final regular season contest
The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team won the Scribner-Snyder Triangular last Thursday night, topping the host Trojans 2-1 and sweeping Logan View 2-0. The Gators then swept Oakland-Craig at home Tuesday night to end the regular season.
In the Scribner-Snyder match, the Gators won set one 25-16, and took set three 25-13 after losing set two 25-22.
Jordan Wegner posted a match-high 15 kills while Maci Batenhorst had 9. Lauren Jacobsen added 25 set assists while Ariel Meyer notched 8.
In the Logan View match, the Gators won set one 25-10, and set two 25-11.
Batenhorst had 8 kills for Wisner-Pilger while Wegner contributed 7. Jacobsen dished out 18 set assists.
Head Coach Jean Groth on the wins. "When the girls earned points those last two games against Logan View they earned 21 of the 25 with a kill, an ace, or a block. The first game against Scribner they earned 20. And when they make 12 errors and 13 errors they're going to have to hope that the other team loses to them because we're not earning the win. And so it was a good lesson for us to learn tonight."
Against the Knights, the Gators took set one 25-16, set two 25-6, and set three 25-13.
Wegner registered 18 kills and 8 digs while Batenhorst notched 9 kills and 7 digs. Ashton Meyer chipped in 8 digs while Jacobsen and Ariel Meyer totaled 21 and 11 set assists, respectively.
Wisner-Pilger is playing at a high level and sets themselves up nicely for Sub-Districts I would say.
The Gators (23-8) battle Battle Creek (20-9) in the C2-4 Sub-District at Norfolk Catholic Monday evening.
The Braves beat Crofton 3-0 at the Mid-State Conference Tournament Tuesday night.
Battle Creek beat Wisner-Pilger 2-0 at the Crofton Triangular on September 21st.
This is going to be a difficult match for the Gators as is any match in this sub-district given how tough it is.
Wegner, Batenhorst, Jacobsen, Ariel Meyer, and Ashton Meyer all need to be on top of their game for Wisner-Pilger.
The Gators need to be on top of their game to come away with a win.
I feel only Wisner-Pilger's best match will yield them a win. The Gators can't afford to come out and play sluggish.
Wisner-Pilger has to be really tough physically and mentally, and must attack, attack, and attack.
The Gators have to be relentless with their attack, and must bring it to the Braves over and over again.
Wegner and Batenhorst need to have gigantic matches for Wisner-Pilger.
The Gators need to be on top of their game and have the mojo working.
Wisner-Pilger has to be intense, focused, and on point.
The Gators must turn in a total team effort and play well together.
Wisner-Pilger has to play with fire, passion, pride, attitude, tenacity, toughness, and grit.
The Gators have to come out ready to lay the smackdown on Battle Creek from the start.
Wisner-Pilger has to revert back to the way they played against St. Paul, and bring that same type of effort and play to Monday night's match.
The Gators and Braves will go at things at 6:15 p.m.
Wisner-Pilger is the 2 seed, and Battle Creek the 3.
