Clarkson/Leigh loses at Humphrey St. Francis; goes 2-1 at Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tournament

The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball Team is 2-2 in their last four matches, losing 3-0 at Humphrey St. Francis Thursday night, and 2-1 to Howells-Dodge at the Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family Tournament on Saturday, before beating the host Bulldogs and Twin River 2-0.

The Flyers took set one 25-15, set two 25-21, and set three 26-24.

Paige Moore led the way with 10 kills while Sydney Folken and Ashlynn Novotny registered 9 and 8, respectively. Kaegan Held added 10 digs and 28 set assists while Brittney Urbanek notched 8 digs. Beth Wiese and Sara McEvoy recorded 7 each.

In the Howells-Dodge match, the Patriots won set one 25-20, but the Jaguars took set two 25-9, and set three 25-17.

Clarkson/Leigh downed the Titans 25-21 in the first set, and 25-22 in the second set.

The Patriots beat the Bulldogs 25-21 in set one, and 25-23 in set two.

I thought Clarkson/Leigh did a great job beating Twin River and Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family. Those two teams are pretty good. The Patriots appear to have gotten back on track.

Clarkson/Leigh (17-7) takes on Oakland-Craig (4-19) at home in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Thursday night.

The Knights swept Pender 3-0 at home Thursday night.

The Patriots should be able to win this match although they need to be wary of an upset.

Clarkson/Leigh swept Oakland-Craig 2-0 at the Clarkson/Leigh Tournament last Saturday, and that should help the Patriots in terms of confidence.

Clarkson/Leigh has already defeated the Knights once so I don't see why they can't do it again.

Tekamah-Herman could be a threat to the Patriots' EHC Tournament success chances, but Clarkson/Leigh can worry about the Tigers if and when they get to them.

The Patriots must come out and establish a dominant presence Thursday night.

Clarkson/Leigh is definitely capable of doing well in this tournament, and quite honestly should have a good showing.

The Patriots are the #3 seed, and I look for Clarkson/Leigh to do some damage in this tournament.

Teams will definitely be gunning for the Patriots, but the way Clarkson/Leigh played in the two matches they won on Saturday has to give the Patriots promise and hope.

Clarkson/Leigh has to be tough minded, and must take the fight to their opponents in this tournament.

I'm sure the Patriots would like a rematch with Stanton in the semifinals, but there's a lot of work to be done before that match happens.

Clarkson/Leigh has to take things one match at a time, and can't get too ahead of themselves.

The Patriots have to be focused, energized, ready, and prepared on every serve of every set.

Clarkson/Leigh can't get caught looking ahead. The Patriots have to respect and take care of each opponent they play.

Clarkson/Leigh has a real chance to make a statement in this tournament, in my opinion, and has to make the most of that opportunity.

Thursday's match is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
