Clarkson/Leigh takes 3rd in East Husker Conference Tournament; downs Oakland-Craig

The Clarkson/Leigh Volleyball team took 3rd at the East Husker Conference Tournament last week, downing Oakland-Craig 2-0 and Tekamah-Herman 2-1 at home on the first night of the tournament Thursday night, before losing 2-0 to Stanton, and beating Wisner-Pilger 2-0 at Logan View on Saturday. The Patriots turned around and defeated the Knights 3-1 at home Tuesday night.

In the first match against Oakland-Craig, Clarkson/Leigh won set one 25-17, and set two 25-16.

Beth Wiese and Paige Moore notched 7 kills apiece for the Patriots while Ashlynn Novotny totaled 5.

The Patriots lost set one 25-21 to the Tigers, but won sets two and three 25-22.

Sydney Folken led Clarkson/Leigh with 12 kills while Moore totaled 9. Novotny and Wiese chipped in 6 apiece.

The Mustangs downed the Patriots 25-21 in sets one and two.

Clarkson/Leigh defeated the Gators 25-23 in the first set, and 25-15 in the second set.

In the second match against the Knights, the Patriots won set one 25-19. Oakland-Craig bounced back to win set two 25-21 before Clarkson/Leigh claimed set three 25-8 and set four 25-12.

The Patriots haven't missed a beat and have continued on a terror despite losing Hannah Kasik to an injury.

Clarkson/Leigh (21-8) takes on Mead (16-6) on the road Thursday night.

The Raiders are coming off a 1-2 performance at the ECNC Tournament last week, including a 2-0 loss to Freeman Thursday night.

Mead has had almost a week to prepare for the Patriots so they should be fresh and ready to go.

The Patriots have played quite a few matches lately, and that figures to make things a challenge from a preparation standpoint as Clarkson/Leigh only has a day or two to prepare for the Raiders.

That's how it's going to be in Subdistricts and beyond if the Patriots get that far though.

I think this match is going to prepare Clarkson/Leigh for what they will see in the postseason.

Mead is a team more at the Patriots' level in terms of class.

I have been saying all along that a strong schedule should prepare GACC for a postseason run, well Clarkson/Leigh also plays a lot of C-1 and C-2 schools, and should be ready to make a postseason run of their own.

We're at the point where the Patriots need to start preparing themselves physically and mentally for the postseason.

Clarkson/Leigh has to still be focused and ready for these next two regular season matches, but the mindset has to start turning over to the postseason one would think.

This match against the Raiders is very important though.

It's going to give the Patriots a great idea of what they'll see and what to expect come postseason time.

Clarkson/Leigh struggled against Humphrey St. Francis you could say, but perhaps this match with Mead will go better.

The Patriots already beat Mead 2-0 at the Hampton Tournament on September 23rd so we'll see if Clarkson/Leigh can get the job done again.

I would say the Patriots have a good shot to win again as they've played a very tough schedule.

This Clarkson/Leigh team is truly special, and I look for the Patriots to take care of business and enjoy a jolly ride home Thursday night.

Excitement and anticipation has to build around the communities and schools of Clarkson and Leigh, and the Patriots have to start getting excited about their opportunity and potential to make a postseason run.
