GACC loses to Pierce
The GACC Volleyball team lost 3-1 at home to Pierce Tuesday night.
Pierce won set one 25-23 and set two 25-16 before GACC claimed set three 25-21. Pierce closed out the match with a 25-13 set four win.
Riley Throener had 10 kills and 10 digs while Bobbie Ortmeier registered 9 kills. Brooklyn Bailey added 8 kills while Ally Plagge totaled 23 digs. Kali Stratman compiled 21 digs and 24 set assists while Hanna Knobbe posted 20 digs.
Despite the loss I thought GACC competed hard and well at times.
The Bluejays (6-12) host Crofton (6-11) Thursday night.
The Warriors beat Creighton 3-0 at home Tuesday night.
Crofton has been kind of up and down, but has lost to some good teams.
The Warriors lost 3-2 at Pierce on September 14th if we're trying to compare the two teams based on how they did against Pierce.
This is a toss up match to me. It really depends on how well both teams show up and play.
I could see GACC winning, but I could also see Crofton leaving town with a hard earned victory.
This is an important match for the Bluejays as GACC needs to get something going prior to the Mid-State Conference Tournament.
I'm just kind of waiting for the Bluejays to get things going and turn it on, and perhaps GACC made some strides in making that happen Tuesday night.
The Bluejays need to make progress and play well this coming Thursday night. Starting off strong the way they did against Pierce, and finishing strong will be important, in my opinion.
I fully expect this match to go five, and perhaps GACC will find a way to win one of those this time.
There's a lot of pride and tradition in this Bluejay program, and you can never count GACC out until they are officially beat in the postseason.
It may sound crazy, but don't count the Bluejays out of state contention just yet.
If GACC can get by Clarkson/Leigh in Subdistricts they should have a good chance to make state.
I feel either the Bluejays or Patriots will represent themselves at state, it's just a matter of who comes out of that Subdistrict.
So what I'm saying is there's still time for GACC all the way until the postseason, but the Bluejays need to figure things out and get things going before it's too late.
It has been a trying year for GACC without a doubt, yet the Bluejays still have a chance to do something in the postseason given their tough schedule I would say.
The road to Lincoln is not easy, but if GACC can string a few wins together here at the end of the regular season, it might be enough momentum to carry the Bluejays to Lincoln and into the State Tournament.
A win over Crofton would be a good start in getting things on track and headed in the right direction.
