BRLD sweeps Logan View; swept at home by North Bend Central

The BRLD Volleyball Team swept Logan View 3-0 on the road last Tuesday night, before getting swept 3-0 at home by North Bend Central this past Tuesday night.

The Wolverines topped the Raiders 25-4 in set one, 25-16 in set two, and 25-20 in set three.

Vicki Gatzemeyer had 9 kills and 8 digs while Kelsey Larsen registered 10 blocks. Kelcee Bacon added 11 digs while Brandi Simonsen had 8. Tiahna Bonneau and Lauren Ahlers notched 16 and 9 set assists, respectively.

The Tigers defeated BRLD 25-12 in set one, 25-9 in set two, and 25-18 in set three.

Morgan Bonneau totaled 7 blocks while Gatzemeyer and Bacon registered 11 digs apiece. Simonsen recorded 10 digs while Tiahna Bonneau dished out 8 set assists.

I thought the Wolverines played a really good match against Logan View, and never gave up against North Bend Central.

BRLD (13-13) battles West Point-Beemer (12-10) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Stanton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Cadets lost 2-0 to Stanton, but beat Scribner-Snyder 2-1 at their home Triangular Tuesday night.

This is a toss up match if you ask me as I think both teams are about equal, and very talented.

There's a lot of talent on both sides of the net with West Point-Beemer probably having more experience.

That's not to say the Wolverines can't win, but BRLD might be at a slight disadvantage in that regard.

BRLD has to start fast and finish strong on Thursday.

The Wolverines have to start the way they did against the Raiders, and finish the way they did against the Tigers.

It's all about BRLD becoming consistently good.

So far, the Wolverines have been up and down this season, and inconsistent, in my opinion.

Either way BRLD should be able to go at least 1-1 on Thursday, but a win over the Cadets and a loss to Stanton looks better than a loss to West Point-Beemer and a win over Madison.

I think the Wolverines getting the 10 seed simply shows how deep this conference is.

I feel there's not much separation between the 6 through 10 seed in this tournament.

I think BRLD has a tough draw, but it could be tougher.

At least the Wolverines avoid playing North Bend Central again until the championship should BRLD somehow make it that far.

If you're the Wolverines you just want the chance to upset Stanton.

Playing the Mustangs in the second round will be a lot more exciting and motivating than playing the Dragons.

I'm sure the goal is to take care of business against whoever you play, but you know BRLD wants Stanton before Madison.

The Wolverines are definitely going to have to earn their points and a win over the Cadets should they get it.

Gatzemeyer, Larsen, Tiahna and Morgan Bonneau, Simonsen, Bacon, and Ahlers all need to have great performances and matches for BRLD on Thursday.
