Emerson-Hubbard goes 1-1 at Hartington-Newcastle Invite; loses both matches of Home Triangular

The Emerson-Hubbard Volleyball Team is 1-3 in their last four matches, losing 2-0 to Wynot, but beating Wausa 2-1 at the Hartington-Newcastle Invite on Saturday, before losing 2-0 to Hartington-Newcastle and Winside at their home Triangular Tuesday night.

The Blue Devils defeated the Pirates 25-13 in set one, and 25-14 in set two.

The Vikings took set one from the Pirates, 25-14, but Emerson-Hubbard one set two 25-17, and set three 25-18.

Hartington-Newcastle defeated the Pirates 25-13 in the first set, and 25-7 in the second set.

Winside beat Emerson-Hubbard 26-24 in set one, and 25-18 in set two.

I thought the Pirates did a nice job of beating Wausa and competing with Winside.

Emerson-Hubbard (4-20) takes on Winside (14-8) again on Saturday at the Lewis and Clark Conference Tournament at Winside.

Winside lost 2-0 to Hartington-Newcastle at the Emerson-Hubbard Triangular Tuesday night.

This is going to be another tough and difficult match for the Pirates without a doubt.

Emerson-Hubbard competed well against the Wildcats the first time around though, and there's no doubt in my mind that they can do it again.

The Pirates have to rediscover the form they played with against Wausa, and take what positives they can away from the Winside match the first time around.

There's a lot of positives to take away from that match, in my opinion, and I think how Emerson-Hubbard competed Tuesday night will give the Pirates confidence in this match.

It's never easy to beat a team twice in one season, let alone twice in one week, so that has to give Emerson-Hubbard confidence and hope as well.

The Pirates have to come out and play with extreme toughness, and must hit their spots on attacks and get their hands up quickly to block balls and prevent kills.

I think having good court awareness will be important for Emerson-Hubbard as well.

The Pirates have to get fired up, and be ready to take it to Winside for however many sets the two teams play.

Winning as a 13 seed is never easy, but Emerson-Hubbard has to be up to the task of getting the job done and moving on Saturday.

The winner gets either Plainview or Randolph in the second match of the day on Saturday so the Pirates have to be up to the task of playing more than one match.

If Emerson-Hubbard can play the way they did Tuesday night and catch a few breaks, they may have a chance.

Much easier said than done though as the Wildcats are a very tough team.

You can bet Winside will come out ready and on top of their game so the Pirates must counter that with good play.

The two teams will play in Winside at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

This tournament is the final regular season play for Emerson-Hubbard prior to Subdistricts.
