Pender loses to Oakland-Craig and Homer; goes 1-1 in first two East Husker Conference Tournament Games

The Pender Volleyball Team is 1-3 in their last four matches, losing 3-0 at Oakland-Craig last Thursday night, 3-1 at home to Homer Tuesday night, and 2-0 to Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament at Wisner-Pilger Thursday night, before beating Logan View 2-0 in their second Conference Tournament match.

Oakland-Craig claimed the first set 25-22, the second set 25-16, and the third set 25-14.

Brittni Beckman paced the Pendragons with 11 kills while Sarah Krueger totaled 7.

Head Coach Kayla Brewer's team had just 5 service errors on the night. "Yeah usually I try to have even lower than that. Towards the end we started getting better. But Brittni Beckman really stepped up tonight. I've been waiting all season to kind of see a leader come out of her, and she really did tonight, and I'm really proud of her."

Homer won set one 25-23. and took sets three and four 25-22 and 25-21 after losing set two 25-18.

The Bulldogs downed the Pendragons 25-12 in the first set, and 25-6 in the second set.

Pender took set one 26-24 from the Raiders, and won set two 25-20.

The win over Logan View was nice and much needed for the Pendragons. It was the second time Pender has beat the Raiders this year.

The Pendragons (5-18) take on Twin River (12-12) in the 9th place bracket on Saturday.

The Titans lost 2-0 to Howells-Dodge and then received a bye in the tournament at North Bend Central Thursday night.

Twin River figures to be a tough and formidable foe for Pender.

The Pendragons are going to need to turn in their best performance of the year to win, there's no doubt about it.

It's one thing to beat Logan View, it's another to knock off the Titans.

Pender has to use this match as a momentum booster and a springboard into the rest of the regular season.

The Pendragons didn't go winless in this tournament so that definitely has to be a plus for Pender.

The Pendragons have to come out and be excited for the opportunity to have success on Saturday.

Pender has to wake up excited and be ready to go from the start.

The Pendragons have to find a way to make progress following the win over the Raiders. The last thing you want to do is take a few steps back.

Reason being then all that momentum you gained and progress you made would be all for nothing.

All of Pender's matches the rest of the regular season are against quality teams, but I think the Pendragons have a chance to hold their own and compete in these final regular season matches.

If Pender can take a set, or at least keep a set close against Twin River, it could be used as a momentum booster heading into the remaining regular season matches the Pendragons have.

I thought Pender showed a lot of heart, fight, determination, and resolve in coming back against Logan View the way they did.

The Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family loss couldn't have been easy to take by any means, but the Pendragons didn't pout and feel sorry for themselves. Instead...they did something about it.

We'll see what Pender does for an encore on Saturday.
