Wisner-Pilger continues to roll

The Wisner-Pilger Volleyball Team continues to play great Volleyball as the Gators went 3-0 at the Wisner-Pilger Invite on Saturday, topping St. Paul 2-1, Wynot 2-0, and Allen 2-0. Wisner-Pilger knocked off a tough Tekamah-Herman team 3-1 at home Tuesday night.

The Gators topped the Eagles 25-9 in set one, and 25-21 in set two.

Maci Batenhorst led the way with 9 kills while Jordan Wegner and Lauren Jacobsen registered 7 apiece. Jacobsen added 15 set assists.

Wisner-Pilger swept the Blue Devils 25-10 in the first set, and 25-19 in the second set.

Batenhorst had a team-high 10 kills while Wegner and Jacobsen totaled 8 each. Jacobsen and Ariel Meyer dished out 13 and 9 set assists, respectively.

The Gators claimed set one from the Wildcats, 25-21, and after dropping set two 25-18, won set three 25-20.

Batenhorst spearheaded the Wisner-Pilger effort, notching 13 kills and 8 digs. Wegner chipped in 7 kills and 10 digs. Ashton Meyer contributed 10 digs with Jacobsen registering 9 digs and 14 set assists. Karrin Jindra compiled 8 digs while Ariel Meyer managed 11 set assists.

Wisner-Pilger earned a 25-17 set one win over the Tigers. Tekamah-Herman bounced back to win set two 26-24 before the Gators took set three 25-8, and set four 25-17.

Wegner led Wisner-Pilger with 19 kills and 10 digs while Batenhorst recorded 14 kills and 9 digs. Cassidy Dixon added 14 digs with Ashton Meyer contributing 12. Jacobsen chipped in 9 digs and 33 set assists while Ariel Meyer posted 10 set assists.

The Gators are playing amazing Volleyball right now, in my opinion. The win over St. Paul was an absolute huge win, there's no doubt about it.

Wisner-Pilger (17-6) takes on Logan View (5-18) in the first round of the East Husker Conference Tournament Thursday night.

The Raiders lost 2-0 to Fremont Bergan and Oakland-Craig at their home Triangular Tuesday night.

Logan View has given teams scares and competed well for the most part this season so the Gators have to watch out for the Raiders.

I'm sure the Gators are planning on matches against Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and perhaps North Bend Central, but Wisner-Pilger has to get by Logan View first.

If the Gators play the way they have lately I don't see any way they lose.

Wegner, Batenhorst, both Meyers, Jacobsen, Dixon, and Jindra have all been solid contributors for Wisner-Pilger in the last week, and need to keep it up.

There has been a big change in the Gators' play over the last few weeks or so, and in a good way.

Wisner-Pilger is playing the type of Volleyball you want to be playing this time of year. Now it's simply a matter of continuing to play well and maximizing your potential if you are the Gators.

Wisner-Pilger has a tough road in this tournament, but I think the Gators are strong enough mentally and physically to handle the challenge.

Both Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family and North Bend Central will be very tough should the Gators see both teams, and so Wisner-Pilger has to be ready to go in those matches from the get go if and when they happen.

The Gators should only be focused on Logan View right now though. The Raiders should be the only team on Wisner-Pilger's minds until after the match is over.

This is one of those matches you want to sweep if you're the Gators so you're not playing an extra set before your second match of the night.

Wisner-Pilger needs to save their energy for their second match of the night, so coming out and playing hard, and taking care of business against Logan View, is of the utmost importance Thursday night.

The Gators have as good a chance as anyone to do damage in this EHC Tournament, in my opinion, and need to come out and play superb Volleyball and be on top of their game Thursday night.

One loss Thursday night puts Wisner-Pilger out of the running for the championship so the Gators have to be on top of their game and ready to go no matter who they're playing.

Wisner-Pilger has to make the most of their opportunities, and advance to Saturday unscathed if at all possible.
