Stanton wins West Point-Beemer Triangular; starts East Husker Conference Tournament 2-0

The Stanton Volleyball team swept West Point-Beemer and Scribner-Snyder 2-0 at the West Point-Beemer Triangular Tuesday night before sweeping Madison and the Cadets 2-0 at home Thursday night in the East Husker Conference Tournament.

The Mustangs defeated the Cadets in the first meeting 25-9 in set one, and 25-14 in set two.

Jessie Brandl had a match-high 10 kills and 8 digs for Stanton while Bree Burtwhistle and Makenna Espinoza notched 14 and 9 set assists, respectively.

The Mustangs knocked off the Trojans 25-8 in the first set, and 25-13 in the second set.

Brandl and Burtwhistle notched 6 kills apiece to lead Stanton. Brandl added 7 digs while Burtwhistle and Espinoza posted 13 and 9 set assists, respectively.

Stanton downed the Dragons 25-5 in set one, and 25-14 in set two.

Heppner notched 8 kills while Jaiden Hartl and Brandl totaled 8 and 7 digs, respectively. Burtwhistle dished out 13 set assists while Espinoza had 8.

The Mustangs topped West Point-Beemer the second time around 25-13 in the first set, and 25-18 in the second set.

Heppner registered 7 kills while Jasmine Kment recorded 8 digs. Burtwhistle added 13 set assists with Espinoza contributing 8.

Stanton is on top of their game and has been all season long. Very good time of the year for the Mustangs to be playing their best Volleyball.

Stanton (21-2) takes on Clarkson/Leigh (19-7) in the East Husker Conference Tournament Semifinals Saturday afternoon at Logan View.

The Patriots downed Oakland-Craig 2-0 and Tekamah-Herman 2-1 in their first two matches of the tournament at home Thursday night.

The Mustangs defeated Clarkson/Leigh 2-0 back on August 31st at their home Triangular, but I can assure you the Patriots are a better team now than they were then.

With that said, it could be argued that Stanton is better too, or at least just as good as they were at that time.

This should be a good match, but I think the Mustangs will find a way to win.

Stanton can't look beyond the Patriots though. The Mustangs have to be focused and not be looking ahead to the championship game, which could very well be against North Bend Central.

I think being so experienced and veteran laden will allow Stanton to be fully focused on Clarkson/Leigh, and will allow them to play well.

I think the Mustangs will be challenged and pushed to a 3rd set, or be pushed to two close sets, but I look for Stanton to find a way to win.

As good as the Patriots are I feel the Mustangs are even better.

What a showdown it would be between Stanton and North Bend Central in the Championship Game.

The Tigers are a great team, but so are the Mustangs, so it should be an exciting day of Volleyball all the way around.

There should be some really good Volleyball played at Logan View on Saturday, and fans will be treated to a real treat I think.

Stanton is no stranger to the big stage, and neither is North Bend Central, so it should be a great match between the two teams if they play.

First things first though, the Mustangs have to take care of business against Clarkson/Leigh.

First serve between Stanton and Clarkson/Leigh is slated for 2:15 p.m.
