Tekamah-Herman goes 2-2 at East Husker Conference Tournament; splits Fremont Bergan Triangular
The Tekamah-Herman Volleyball Team went 2-2 at the East Husker Conference Tournament, sweeping Scribner-Snyder 2-0 and losing 2-1 to Clarkson/Leigh at Clarkson Thursday night, before beating Howells-Dodge 2-1 and losing 2-0 to West Point-Beemer at Logan View on Saturday. The Tigers then turned around and split the Fremont Bergan Triangular Tuesday night, beating Scribner-Snyder 2-0, but losing 2-0 to the host Knights.
Tekamah-Herman won one over Scribner-Snyder 25-9 and set two 25-14.
The Tigers took set one from the Patriots, 25-21, but Clarkson/Leigh won sets two and three 25-22.
Wakehouse had a match-high 16 kills while Jetensky put down 12.
The Cadets defeated Tekamah-Herman 25-21 in the first set, and 25-22 in the second set.
The Jaguars took set one from the Tigers, 25-23, but Tekamah-Herman bounced back to win sets two and three 25-19 and 25-14.
Bergan claimed set one 25-15, and set two 27-25.
The Tigers won set one over the Trojans, 25-23, and took set two 25-15.
Tekamah-Herman played good Volleyball in their wins, and was very competitive in their losses over these last six matches.
The Tigers (17-12) travel to Dodge to take on Howells-Dodge (13-14) Thursday night.
The Jaguars lost 3-0 at home to North Bend Central Tuesday night.
Tekamah-Herman will try and knock off Howells-Dodge again, but beating the Jaguars a second time figures to be a very tough challenge.
I think this match could go either way, and I think if the Tigers win it's going to be in 4 or 5 sets.
I look for most if not all of the sets to be very close and competitive.
Tekamah-Herman got the better of Howells-Dodge the first time around, especially at the end, and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can finish that strong again.
The Jaguars started out strong against Tekamah-Herman, and against North Bend Central Tuesday night, but the latter set or sets weren't as close.
I don't know if that's just a young Howells-Dodge team running out of gas or what it is, but I think the Tigers have a chance to wear down the Jaguars again.
Tekamah-Herman is more a veteran laden team while Howells-Dodge is young so that's an advantage for the Tigers, in my opinion.
The counter argument to that could be Tekamah-Herman hasn't played as well lately as they were at the mid way point of the season.
And there is some truth to that as the Tigers are just 3-5 in their last 8 matches.
With that said, the Jaguars are just 4-12 in their last 16 matches, but I think it's more a case of both teams are playing tough competition as opposed to not playing well.
Something has to give in this match though. I would say Tekamah-Herman is playing better Volleyball right now, but Howells-Dodge will be very hungry for a win without a doubt.
The Tigers should be very hungry for a win too though so it should be a great match.
I look for both teams to get after one another and try and outdo the other.
I think it will be important for Tekamah-Herman's players to hit their spots with their attacks, and get their hands up in time and in the right places for the block.
Having good court presence and awareness will be critical for the Tigers as well I would say.
Tekamah-Herman has to play smart, but aggressive Volleyball Thursday night.
