The GACC Volleyball Team lost 3-2 at David City Aquinas Thursday night before falling 3-1 at Norfolk Catholic Tuesday night.
The Bluejays took set one from the Monarchs 25-21 before losing sets two and three 25-13 and 25-20. GACC won set four 25-11, but fell 15-12 in set five.
Sophia Hass, Evelyn Wooldrik, and Taylor Timmerman each had 15 kills apiece while Hass had 18 digs. Kelsy Steffen added 20 digs while Erica Engelmeyer and Isabel Hass totaled 17 and 14 digs, respectively. Megan Plagge added 11 digs and 46 assists.
The Knights took set one 26-24 and set two 25-23 before the Bluejays won set three 25-19. Norfolk Catholic then went on to win set four 25-18.
Sophia Hass had 16 kills and 23 digs for the Bluejays while Wooldrik notched 11 kills. Isabel Hass contributed 39 digs while Engelmeyer and Plagge each registered 18 with Steffen adding 14.
A couple of tough losses so far for GACC.
The Bluejays (0-2) take on Fremont Bergan (2-0) and North Bend Central (2-0) at the Northeast Nebraska Classic in North Bend Thursday night.
The Knights won 3-1 at home over Omaha Roncalli in Thursday night's season opener before sweeping Lincoln Christian 3-0 at home Tuesday night.
The Tigers swept Shelby-Rising City and Madison 2-0 at the Madison Triangular Tuesday night.
GACC has their work cut out for them once again in this one, but if there's ever a team to win a couple of matches against top notch competition it is the Bluejays.
GACC is young, and I think that's hurting them right now.
It is early in the season, but the Bluejays need to use these two matches as matches to improve, grow, and get better, all while trying to win.
GACC always has high standards and expectations, and the Bluejays have to come out and play and compete well and hard come Thursday night.
Playing two tough opponents, including one opponent on their home floor, is never easy, but then again GACC isn't used to easy competition or games.
The Bluejays always challenge themselves and play tough competition, and it pays off for them.
I'm sure it will pay off in some form or fashion this year as well, but right now GACC is going through a lot of growing pains.
