Winnebago loses to Wakefield to end year
The year came to a close for the Winnebago Indians last Monday as they fell 3-0 to Wakefield in the C2-3 Sub District at Pender.
Winnebago lost set one 25-9, dropped set two 25-8, and fell 25-12 in set three.
The Indians definitely didn't end the season strong or the way they wanted to. Winnebago ends the campaign at 7-20.
Winnebago parts ways with Skylar Kennedy, Sianne Harden, Illeanna Frenchman, and Rebecca Fremont.
These four contributed a lot to Indian volleyball this season. Their contributions will be missed I'm sure. Their loss will be felt in the future too I am sure.
It wasn't the greatest season for Winnebago by any stretch of the imagination, but the Indians went out there and gave it their all every time out I am sure.
The success of this year's team can't necessarily be measured by wins or losses, but by how much this team grew as the year went on.
I think Winnebago did improve as the year went on, although it's hard to see that improvement given the results of their matches.
The Indians managed a few wins here and there, and took three out of four from Omaha Nation.
Winnebago has a lot to work on if they want to be better in the future though.
The returning players and newcomers need to dedicate themselves to the gym and the weightroom this offseason, and attend summer camps and open gyms whenever possible.
These girls have to want to get better, and make improvements before the start of next season.
There are some big shoes to fill with the departure of the four seniors listed above, but it's simply time for new players to emerge and rise up and fill the void left by the departing seniors.
I think the Indians have a chance to win at least 10-15 matches next year if they improve, grow, and mature significantly in the offseason.
